1ST STAR: ETHAN CARDWELL (SAGINAW SPIRIT) – 2G
Sophomore forward Ethan Cardwell had a pair of goals including the late third period game winner in Monday’s 3-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds. The Spirit tracked down their sixth straight win to climb into a first place tie with the Guelph Storm in the Western Conference. The 17-year-old Cardwell has 18 points (11-7–18) over 33 games this season. The Courtice, Ont. native was a second round pick of the Spirit in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.
2ND STAR: BAILEY BRKIN (SOO GREYHOUNDS) – 37 SV
Bailey Brkin did his part for the Soo Greyhounds on Monday, making 37 saves in a 3-1 road loss to the Saginaw Spirit. The overage netminder from Sherwood Park, Alta. kept the Hounds in the game as they were outshot 40-25. Ethan Cardwell broke up a 1-1 tie with just over two minutes remaining in the third period before Saginaw took out insurance with an empty netter. Brkin is 11-5-1-0 with a 3.27 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in 18 games since coming over from the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors where he played 13 games to start the 2019-20 season.
3RD STAR: DALTON DUHART (SAGINAW SPIRIT) – 2A
Dalton Duhart had a pair of assists and four shots on goal in Monday’s 3-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds. The product of nearby Grand Blanc, Mich. has 13 points (5-8–13) through 20 games in a Spirit uniform after starting the season with two assists over 11 games with the Barrie Colts. The 18-year-old was originally a third round pick of the London Knights in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
