Sunday Highlights: Fronts strike for six
KINGSTON 6 – KITCHENER 1
Dallas Stars prospect Jason Robertson (37, 38) led the way with two goals and two assists while goaltender Jeremy Helvig made history on Sunday as the Kingston Frontenacs trounced the visiting Kitchener Rangers 6-1. Helvig earned his 76th career victory to become the winningest goaltender in Frontenacs all-time franchise history, making 29 saves in the process. Ted Nichol (6) and Gabriel Vilardi (12) both had a goal and two assists while Ryan Cranford recorded three helpers. Linus Nyman (33) and Cliff Pu (23) also tallied for the Frontenacs who improve to 31-17-5-3 with their eighth win in the past 10 games. The Rangers surrender six goals in their second straight loss as Givani Smith (15) provided their lone marker. Kitchener outshot Kingston 30-24 but the Fronts managed to go 2-for-2 on the power play. Kingston is now six points out of first place in the East Division while Kitchener falls to 37-17-2-0.

NORTH BAY 4 – MISSISSAUGA 3 – OT
The Mississauga Steelheads fought back from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime before Brad Chenier (16) took a pass from Justin Brazeau with 1:54 left in the extra frame to seal the deal for the Troops. North Bay’s 4-3 win featured a goal and two assists from Brazeau (34) while Brandon Coe (8) and Luke Burghardt (26) also found the back of the net. Christian Propp made 33 saves in goal while Matthew Struthers had two assists. The win thrusts the Battalion into a fourth place tie in the Eastern Conference, improving their record to 26-22-6-2. The Steelheads earn a point in the loss to give themselves a five point cushion on ninth place Peterborough in the Eastern Conference. Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett (24, 25) scored twice while Cole Carter (15) knotted the score at three with 4:12 left in the third period. The Trout suffer their fourth straight loss, falling to 24-28-1-2.

ERIE 5 – GUELPH 4
The Erie Otters climbed out to a 3-0 lead but the Guelph Storm would make things interesting, forcing the Otters to work for their two points in a 5-4 home ice win. Kyle Maksimovich (25) and Owen Headrick (9) scored third period markers for Erie as the Otters outshot the Storm 43-21. Guelph pulled to within a goal three different times but couldn’t beat the final buzzer as the Storm suffered their third straight loss. Alex Gritz (11, 12) scored twice for the Otters while Hayden Fowler (7) also lit the lamp. Guelph goals came from James McEwan (12), Nate Schnarr (14), Alexey Toropchenko (13) and Dmitri Samorukov (9) while Anthony Popovich made 38 saves. The Storm sit seventh in the Western Conference, two points back of Saginaw while Erie improves to 17-29-7-3.

WINDSOR 7 – FLINT 0
The Windsor Spitfires came out guns blazing on Mickey Renaud Night, climbing out to a 6-0 first period lead on the visiting Flint Firebirds in a 7-0 victory. Rookie forward Cody Morgan (6, 7) scored twice while Curtis Douglas (18) had a goal, two assists and 10 shots on goal. Luke Kutkevicius (7), William Sirman (6), Tyler Angle (7) and Thomas Stevenson (3) also scored Windsor goals while Cole Purboo and Igor Larionov both picked up a pair of assists. Windsor outshot Flint 48-20 as Michael DiPietro earned his league-leading sixth shutout and the 14th of his OHL career, tying him for second on the OHL’s all-time list with Mark Visentin and Gerald Coleman. Luke Cavallin turned aside 37 of the 40 shots he faced in a relief appearance for the Firebirds as they dropped their seventh straight decision. Windsor sits eighth in the Western Conference, three points back of Guelph with an overall record of 26-24-3-2.
