Sunday Highlights: Byfield completes comeback as Wolves stun Colts

 

SUDBURY 3, BARRIE 2 – OT
A Central Division rivalry that dates back to the mid-90’s the intensity between the Sudbury Wolves and Barrie Colts is heating up again. After losing 10-3 to Barrie on Thursday, the Wolves responded with a 3-2 comeback overtime win capped off by a game winner from Quinton Byfield (3). Down 2-0, Darian Pilon (1) and Emmett Serensits (1) scored at 10:57 and 13:01 to knot things at two before Byfield’s winner came on a shot inside the far post from down the left wing. Buffalo Sabres prospect Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen earned his first OHL win with a 29-save showing to be named first star of the game. Sophomore sensation Ryan Suzuki (3, 4) scored both Barrie goals while Lucas Chiodo chipped in with a pair of assists. Sudbury improves to 3-2 while the Colts are 2-1-1-0.

OTTAWA 4, HAMILTON 3 – OT
The Ottawa 67’s wrapped up a weekend on the road, grabbing four of six points after Tye Felhaber’s (3, 4) second of the afternoon stood as the overtime winner in Hamilton. The 67’s defeated the Bulldogs 4-3 in their home opener as Felhaber scored the deciding goal nine seconds into OT. Jack Quinn (1) and Lucas Peric (1) also found the back of the net for Ottawa while Cedrick Andree made 27 saves in goal. Brandon Saigeon (3), Arthur Kaliyev (6) and Nicolas Mattinen (3) tallied for Hamilton. Ottawa improves to 3-2 while Hamilton gains a point to sit at 2-1-1-0.

OSHAWA 7, NORTH BAY 5
In another high-scoring affair, the Oshawa Generals outgunned the North Bay Battalion 7-5 as Serron Noel (5, 6) and Jack Studnicka (2, 3) each scored twice. Danil Antropov (2), Matt Brassard (1) and Nick Wong (1) got in on the action as the Gennies went 3-for-6 on the power play. Studnicka finished the afternoon with two goals and two assists. Battalion captain Justin Brazeau (3, 4, 5) netted his third career hat-trick while Adam McMaster (3) and Matthew Struthers (3) added singles. Struthers finished with a goal and two helpers while Egor Postnov added a pair of assists. The Battalion went 0-3 on the weekend, and hold a 1-4 record out of the gate. Oshawa climbs to 2-2.

MISSISSAUGA 4, KINGSTON 1
The Mississauga Steelheads got assists from both Owen Tippett and Ryan McLeod while first star Michael Little (2, 3) had two goals and an assist. Keean Washkurak (2) and Cole Carter (3) also got involved offensively as the Fish outshot the Frontenacs 41-30. Los Angeles Kings prospect Jacob Ingham earned the win in goal with a 29-save showing. Rookie Zayde Wisdom’s first OHL goal was Kingston’s lone marker while goaltender Brendan Bonello stopped 37 of 40 shots in the loss. The Trout improve to 2-1-1-0 while Kingston sits at 2-3.
