Sunday Highlights: Big performances round out the weekend
KITCHENER 10 – GUELPH 3
The Kitchener Rangers brought a Guelph Storm four-game winning streak to an abrupt halt, taking a 10-3 road win as Cole Carter (7, 8, 9) recorded his first OHL hat-trick. Slovakian winger Adam Liska (9) was equally impressive, recording a goal and three assists along with a plus/minus rating of plus-5. The Midwest Division-leading Rangers also had goals from Giovanni Vallati (3), Adam Mascherin (21), Riley Damiani (11), Greg Meireles (9), Jake Henderson (6) and Jonathan Yantsis (3). Kitchener outshot Guelph 40-28, improving to 20-10-2-0. Mason Primeau (3) brought the teddy bears to the ice 2:40 into the second period while other Storm goals came from Givani Smith (4) and Ryan Merkley (9). The Storm fall to 16-11-1-2 and trail the first place Rangers by seven points.

SUDBURY 4 – OTTAWA 3 – SO
Blake Murray’s (9, 10) second of the game with 3:10 remaining tied the score at three, setting the stage for Shane Bulitka to score the game winner in the seventh round of a shootout as the Sudbury Wolves took a 4-3 win in Ottawa. Murray had two goals and an assist on the afternoon while Kirill Nizhnikov (5) found the back of the net as the Wolves improved to 10-17-5-0. Peter Stratis’ (4) goal 11:52 into the second period brought the teddy bears to the ice, ending a 67’s goal-scoring drought at TD Place following back-to-back shutout losses on home ice. Kody Clark (11) and Tye Felhaber (7) added Ottawa goals as the 67’s suffered their fourth straight loss and ninth in the past 11 games. Jake McGrath made 34 saves in goal for Sudbury to pick up the win.

SAULT STE. MARIE 6 – WINDSOR 3
Make it 17 in a row. The Soo Greyhounds were winners again on Sunday as Boris Katchouk (26, 27) scored twice in a 6-3 win over the visiting Windsor Spitfires. Jack Kopacka (17, 18) also scored twice while Keeghan Howdeshell (7) and Hayden Verbeek (10) also capitalized. Rasmus Sandin and Conor Timmins both chipped in with two assists while Matthew Villalta made 28 saves. The Spits were without the services of goaltender Michael DiPietro as Brock Baier made 24 saves in the loss. OHL goal-scoring leader Aaron Luchuk (28) scored for the fourth straight game while Cole Purboo (9) and Logan Brown (13) also lit the lamp. The Hounds improve to 26-3-2-0 while Windsor falls to 17-11-2-0.

NORTH BAY 5 – BARRIE 2
Justin Brazeau’s (21, 22, 23) first OHL hat-trick headlined a 5-2 North Bay Battalion home ice win over the Barrie Colts. Brazeau set up Luke Burghardt (13) for North Bay’s Teddy Bear Toss goal 11:45 into the first period and proceeded to score three times in a win over the division rival Colts. Christian Propp made 25 saves against his former club while Adam Thilander (2) also scored for the Battalion, helping them improve to 11-16-4-0. North Bay outshot Barrie 48-27, going 3-for-7 on the power play as blueliner Nick King picked up two assists on the afternoon. Ryan Suzuki (6) and Andrei Svechnikov (11) scored Barrie goals as the Colts fell to 17-10-2-1.

HAMILTON 5 – MISSISSAUGA 2
Detroit Red Wings prospect Kaden Fulcher turned aside 45 shots while Brandon Saigeon (14, 15) scored twice, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs over the Mississauga Steelheads 5-2 on the road. Will Bitten (9), Nicholas Caamano (16) and Connor McMichael (2) scored additional Bulldogs goals as Hamilton improved to 18-7-3-3. The Steelheads outshot the Bulldogs 47-39 but suffered their ninth straight loss as New Jersey Devils prospect Michael McLeod (7, 8) accounted for both goals. The Trout sit at 11-19-0-1 to close out the weekend.

LONDON 6 – ERIE 2
The London Knights scored six times on 23 shots, defeating the visiting Erie Otters 6-2 as Anaheim Ducks prospect Max Jones (17, 18) scored twice. Cliff Pu (14), Sam Miletic (8), Andrew Perrott (1) and Robert Thomas (20) also found the back of the net for London as the Knights improved to 15-13-2-0. Jones finished the game with two goals and two assists while Joseph Raaymakers made his 20th straight start for London, making 22 saves to earn the win. The Otters went 2-for-3 on the man advantage and had goals from Kyle Maksimovich (15) and Ivan Lodnia (16) while Taylor Raddysh picked up two assists. The loss is Erie’s seventh straight as the Otters all to 10-16-4-1.

SAGINAW 3 – OSHAWA 1
New Jersey Devils prospect Evan Cormier turned in a 33-save performance before a hometown crowd as the Bowmanville native backstopped the Saginaw Spirit to a 3-1 win in Oshawa. Jake Goldowski (1), Marcus Crawford (9) and Cole Coskey (16) scored Spirit goals as Saginaw improved to 15-11-3-0 with their eighth win in the past 10 games. Cormier nearly thwarted the Generals on Teddy Bear Toss Night as Kenny Huether (13) finally send the bears to the ice 5:06 into the third period. Kyle Keyser turned aside 35 shots for the Generals in his first start since Nov. 5th. Oshawa falls to 13-17-2-0 while Saginaw climbs to within three points of Windsor in the West Division.
