Storm to host Anishnabeg Outreach Hand Up For Healing Game presented by Neighbourhood Group of Companies
Friday, February 23rd marks the Guelph Storm’s annual Hand Up for Healing game in support of Anishnabeg Outreach sponsored by the Neighbourhood Group of Companies as the Storm host the Windsor Spitfires at the Sleeman Centre.
The Guelph Storm and Neighbourhood Group of Companies continue to be great supporters and partners of Anishnabeg Outreach’s work in moving the needle on reconciliation within the Kitchener-Waterloo community and beyond. Last season’s game and jersey auction saw $11,500 raised in support of Anishnabeg Outreach.
Hand Up for Healing is about offering a hand-up, not a hand-out. Anishnabeg Outreach has patterned with local agencies, organizations, and businesses across Ontario to develop and pilot the Essential Lifeskills programs and self-directed Virtual Mental Health Training system to support Indigenous communities in their journey to healing. Every donation of $100 is a sponsorship for one community member to acquire access to such support. There are many other ways to help put a hand up for the local Indigenous community: donating food to our Spirit Bundle program, volunteering in the summer at our community garden, and sponsoring a beader in our Orange shirt pin program. Visit aocan.org for more information on how you can get involved!
The game will feature a ceremonial puck drop with Stephen Jackson, CEO Anishnabeg Outreach, Court D, President of Neighbourhood Group of Companies, and Storm defender and proud member of the Ojibwe (Ojibwa, Ojibway, and Chippewa) and Wikwemikoong community Michael Buchinger. A donation and education table will be at the top of section 116 in the Community Corner. The Storm will take the ice on commemorative jerseys which will be auctioned off, with the funds supporting Anishnabeg Outreach.
