Storm re-sign Wiseman, coaching staff
Guelph, Ont. – The Storm are happy to announce that Head Coach Chad Wiseman, Assistant Coach Todd Miller, Assistant Coach Rob Collins, and Goaltending Coach Rob Beatty have re-signed with the organization.
“The struggles at the beginning of last season really made them stronger as a group and we’re excited to keep the entire staff together moving forward,” President of Hockey Operations Scott Walker said. “We were one of the best teams during the last half of the season and we gave a really solid, veteran team all they could handle in the playoffs.”
Wiseman recently completed his first season as Storm Head Coach, but has been with the Storm since the 2018-2019 season as an Assistant where he helped guide the club to the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions. In 2019-20, he was promoted to Associate Coach and would continue that role for two seasons before being named Head Coach last September. During five years with the Storm, the Burlington native has an OHL career record of 143-93-18-13. This past year, Wiseman and his staff led the squad to a 21-11-1-0 record in 33 games played in the latter half of the season.
“George Burnett has been a mentor and great support system for me not only as Head Coach but also my previous 4 seasons working with him as an assistant,” Wiseman said. “I would like to thank Joel, Jeff and Scott for the continued opportunity to Coach and be part of such a great CHL franchise. I would also like to thank my wife Carly and kids Kya and Mason. Their unconditional support allows me to continue to pursue my dreams and goals of being a hockey coach.”
Returning for their second year with the Storm are Assistant Coaches Todd Miller and Rob Collins. Miller heads into his 14th year of junior coaching experience, including nine campaigns working as an Assistant with the Barrie Colts and one as head coach with the Oshawa Generals in 2021-22. Collins joined the Storm from the GOJHL’s Elmira Sugar Kings where he began his coaching career, being named Head Coach of the club in 2021.
Goaltending Coach Rob Beatty returns for his third season. He joined the team ahead of the 2021-22 season and brings extensive experience with his work as goaltending coach in the OJHL, USports with Wilfred Laurier and most notably his four years spent with the Brampton/North Bay Battalion.
“We have a strong, experienced coaching staff that have built the foundation needed for future success,” Wiseman said. “I look forward to continuing to work alongside my staff and develop our young athletes and be part of helping them reach their future goals.”
