Sting acquire overage forward Kai Schwindt
The Sarnia Sting added some experience to their forward corps ahead of the weekend, acquiring 6-foot-3 winger Kai Schwindt from the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for a ninth-round pick in 2024.
A free agent signing by the Florida Panthers in September 2022, Schwindt recorded 25 points (12-13–25) in 67 games with Mississauga in 2022-23. He started his season with the ECHL’s Florida Everglades, recording one assist in six games. Schwindt got into NHL preseason action with the Panthers.
“He’s a big body who loves the physical game, and plays with good puck confidence,” said Sting GM Dylan Seca. “Kai is a player we’ve tracked for the last two years and believe his ability is just starting to reach its potential. He will add much needed size, physicality, and leadership to our group. We welcome Kai and the Schwindt family to Sarnia.”
The younger brother of former Steelheads forward-turned Calgary Flames prospect Cole Schwindt, Kai made his Sting debut on Sunday in a 5-1 loss to the Flint Firebirds. He was originally signed by the Steelheads as a free agent in the summer of 2021.
