Steelheads’ Martin headed to Queen’s for 2020-21 season
Mississauga Steelheads forward Calvin Martin is the latest OHL grad to commit to the Queen’s Gaels men’s hockey program for the 2020-21 season.
The Peterborough native suited up for 191 OHL games between 2015 and 2020 and amassed 86 points (38-48—86) over the span of his career. After being traded from the Sarnia Sting this past October, the 6-foot winger put forth 31 points over 48 appearances with the Fish, wrapping up a career high 40-point production over his final 56 final OHL contents between both clubs. Martin was drafted by the Soo Greyhounds in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection out of the Peterborough Petes Minor Midget program, and would spend time with the Greyhounds, the QMJHL’s Val-d’Or Foreurs and the Sarnia Sting before finishing out his overage year in Mississauga.
Martin, 20, joins fellow overagers Anthony Popovich (Flint) and Elijah Roberts (Niagara) in joining a Gaels squad that has seen recent success with a Queen’s Cup title in 2019.
