Spitfires’ Woodall announces second donation to Play for a Cure through “Woody’s Hoodies”
Windsor, Ontario – March 17th, 2025 – Woody’s Hoodies is thrilled to announce their second donation to Play for a Cure of $31,024 towards cancer research, with a focus on the new local triple negative breast cancer fresh tissue trial. This brings total donations to various cancer associations to OVER $65,000 since its launch one year ago on St. Patrick’s Day.
Founded by Windsor Spitfires defencemaan Carson Woodall of Belle River, Woody’s Hoodies was created to honour his two grandmothers: in memory of Nana O’Brien and in support of Nana Woodall, both of whom have faced battles with cancer. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, they have fulfilled over 1,100 orders and sold more than 3,100 items — including over 2,600 hoodies — with many local teams, schools, and businesses among their customers.
To date, Carson has supported various cancer organizations through the following contributions:
- A $14,000 sponsorship for the Play for a Cure Pro-Am Shootout Contest
- An initial donation of $12,720 to Play for a Cure Pro-Am in April of 2024
- $5,885 raised by repelling the CIBC building as part of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation’s “Show Us Your Brave” initiative
- $4,500 raised through auctions and signed Woody’s Hoodies raffles
Every Woody’s Hoodie features a custom ribbon that combines the symbols representing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. They are prominently displayed on the right sleeve, symbolizing unity and support during handshake lineups at hockey games.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the support from the Windsor Spitfires, the Ontario Hockey League, Hogan’s Printing, our amazing fans, and the entire hockey community,” says Carson Woodall. “Their generosity has helped us raise vital funds in honor of my two nanas, and together, we’re making a real impact in the fight against cancer.”
About Woody’s Hoodies
Established during the pandemic in 2020 by Carson Woodall and his father, Woody’s Hoodies began as a way to foster team bonding and camaraderie. The initiative has since expanded its purpose to support the fight against cancer. Wearing #24 on the ice, Carson donates 24% of all sales to Play for a Cure, turning his number into a symbol of hope and support. Beyond fundraising, Carson has dedicated hundreds of hours to community events, sponsored local teams and events, and donated hundreds of pieces of Woody’s Hoodies gear — further reinforcing his commitment to giving back.
