Spirit’s PJ Forgione commits to University of Vermont
Saginaw, Mich. – Spirit defenceman PJ Forgione recently announced his commitment to the University of Vermont, where he will continue his hockey journey after concluding his OHL career.
A Burlington, VT native, the overage blueliner will return to his home state. This season, the 20-year-old has recorded 14 points (2 goals, 12 assists) in 40 games.
Selected 118th overall in the 6th round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Forgione ranks seventh on the team’s all-time games played list among defencemen (201), surpassing former captain Mitchell Smith earlier this season. Across 201 regular-season games, he has tallied 20 goals, 47 assists, and 67 points.
Additionally, the 6-foot-2, 215lb. defenceman has appeared in 20 playoff contests with the Spirit, and was crowned a 2024 Memorial Cup champion.
Located in Burlington, Vermont, the University of Vermont has produced many NHL alumni such as three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Sharp and former NHL All-Star and Hart Trophy winner Martin St. Louis.
Forgione will join fellow OHL player Cedrick Guindon of the Kingston Frontenacs at the University of Vermont.
