Spirit’s Klepov establishes new rookie points benchmark
Nikita Klepov has rewritten the history books in Saginaw, becoming the highest-scoring rookie in Spirit history.
With an assist in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Windsor Spitfires, Klepov reached 75 points on the season (31-44–75). This point pushes him past the previous rookie benchmark of 74, set by Cole Perfetti during the 2018-19 campaign.
The record is the latest accolade in a standout second half for the 2026 NHL Draft prospect. Klepov’s momentum has been building since January, when he earned OHL Rookie of the Month honours with 19 points in 12 games and claimed the Connor McDavid 97 Award as MVP of the OHL Top Prospects Game.
By surpassing a mark held by a player of Perfetti’s calibre, Klepov has firmly established himself as one of the most dynamic young talents to ever wear the Spirit jersey.
