(4) Oshawa Generals (41-21-4-2) vs. (5) Brampton Steelheads (36-22-10-0)
The Oshawa Generals captured the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference champions last spring, and now they’re back for the whole thing.
Unfortunately for the Generals, they’ve drawn one of the hottest teams in the league as their first round opponent as the Brampton Steelheads, who stumped observers throughout an inconsistent first half of the season, enter the postseason on a six-game winning streak.
The talent has always been there for the Steelheads, who feature a potential first overall NHL Draft selection in forward Porter Martone and one of the league’s top goal-scorers in Carson Rehkopf. Injuries definitely played a factor in their in-season turbulence, but the group is largely healthy to begin the second season.
NHL enthusiasts will want to keep close tabs on this series as a number of first round talents in Colby Barlow (Winnipeg), Ben Danford (Toronto), Calum Ritchie (NY Islanders) and Beckett Sennecke (Anaheim) line up on the Oshawa side against prospects Rehkopf (Seattle), Luke Misa (Calgary), Finn Harding (Pittsburgh), Angus MacDonell (Dallas), Konnor Smith (Anaheim) and 2025 prospects Martone, Lucas Karmiris and goaltender Jack Ivankovic for the Trout.
