(3) Kitchener Rangers (47-15-4-2) vs. (6) Flint Firebirds (29-34-2-3)
The Kitchener Rangers and Flint Firebirds meet in the OHL Playoffs for the first time, and if the season series was any indication, it’s going to be tight. The Rangers and Firebirds played four games all decided by one goal, setting the stage for what should be a closely-matched first round series.
Kitchener’s calling card throughout the season was stingy team defence, an excellent penalty kill and top notch goaltending from Jackson Parsons – all things that should spell success in the postseason if they can get the offensive output. The Rangers did things by committee on the offensive side, being sparked by Adrian Misaljevic, Jack Pridham, Luke Ellinas, Trent Swick, Luca Romano and Tanner Lam throughout the season.
The Firebirds have a number of veterans in their lineup trying to make the most of their last kick at an OHL title including overagers Nolan Collins, Evan Konyen and Blake Smith. This should be a physical series as Firebirds captain Connor Clattenburg and 36-goal scorer Sam McCue aren’t afraid to mix it up.
Get ready for a good goaltending matchup as Parsons lines up against Flint’s Nathan Day in the crease.
