(3) Kingston Frontenacs (40-20-5-3) vs. (6) Sudbury Wolves (32-31-5-0)
The Kingston Frontenacs and Sudbury Wolves only face each other twice during the regular season, and haven’t met in the OHL Playoffs in 19 years. Both teams with high-powered names up front with some stellar defenders competing in the series, only one will emerge from this first around affair.
The Frontenacs enter the playoffs off their third 40-win season in the past 30 years, riding the chemistry between forwards Cedrick Guindon, Tuomas Uronen and Jacob Battaglia while captain Quinton Burns logs big minutes on the blueline. The Fronts also notably put together a 16-game home winning streak in the latter half of the season, setting a new franchise record in the process.
The Wolves will be tasked with earning a win at Slush Puppie Place in order to advance. They have some high profile names of their own in goal-scoring machine Quentin Musty, big Winnipeg Jets prospect Kieron Walton, scrappy centreman Nathan Villeneuve and deadline acquisition Henry Mews on the blueline. Expect veteran defenders Donovan McCoy and Nick De Angelis to see big minutes in the series.
Home ice advantage weighs in Kingston’s favour as they hunt the first OHL championship in the history of their franchise this spring.
