(2) Barrie Colts (42-22-2-2) vs. (3) Kingston Frontenacs (40-20-5-3)
It’s a two-versus-three seed showdown as the Central Division champion Barrie Colts take on a surging Kingston Frontenacs squad in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final. With both teams coming off strong regular seasons and first round triumphs, this series is set up to be an intense battle.
Vancouver Canucks prospect Anthony Romani has found his scoring touch with the Barrie Colts, tied for the league lead in playoff goals with eight. He and former North Bay Battalion teammates Dalyn Wakely and Owen Van Steensel have some unfinished business with three straight trips to the Eastern Conference Championship Series in the rearview mirror.
Barrie juggled goaltenders Sam Hillebrandt and Ben Hrebik in their Round 1 win over Niagara. Across the ice, the Kingston Frontenacs are all-in on overager Charlie Schenkel, who backstopped them past the Sudbury Wolves in four straight games.
Kingston comes off its fourth 40-win season in the past 30 years and has no shortage of scoring options as overage centreman Cedrick Guindon leads their postseason attack with eight points. Freshly signed Calgary Flames prospect Jacob Battaglia is always a threat to light the lamp, coming off a 40-goal campaign.
Is this the year the Fronts capture their first OHL Championship? They’ll have to get past a physical, well-built Barrie squad to do so.
