Rangers acquire goaltender Tristan Malboeuf
The Kitchener Rangers added to their goaltending depth on Thursday, acquiring 19-year-old Tristan Malboeuf from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for a pair of conditional draft picks.
A former 15th round OHL Draft pick from Oakville, Ont., Malboeuf persevered to break into the OHL as a 17-year-old in 2021-22, and had the unique experience of earning a shutout in his OHL debut on Oct. 16, 2021 in Niagara. He played to a 12-9-2-0 mark over 30 games in his first full season last year, posting a 3.39 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.
“We are excited to welcome Tristan to the team,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie, who traded a conditional seventh-round pick in 2026 and conditional fifth-round choice in 2027 in the exchange. “He has experience in the league and will solidify our goaltending position by having two very strong options. It’s such an important position and having both Tristan and Jackson (Parsons) will give us a chance to win in all 68 games this season.”
The Bulldogs also had good things to say about Malboeuf based off the determination he showed during his time with the franchise.
“Tristan Malboeuf is a tremendous example of what hard work and perseverance can bring,” said Bulldogs General Manager Matt Turek. “We are very proud of what Tristan has accomplished and thank him for his contributions to the Bulldogs organization both on and off the ice and wish him nothing but the very best as he continues his OHL career with the Rangers.”
Malboeuf will wear #29 in Kitchener.
