#puckCOVID: West Division Update
It’s all quiet on the ice, but OHL member teams and their players are staying active away from the rink, taking up the fight against COVID-19 through social distancing and awareness efforts.
Several OHL clubs have reached out to their surrounding communities throughout these unprecedented times while players have provided updates on their lifestyles and activities in past weeks.
This time we’re highlighting the efforts, the encouragement and the positive messaging from teams in the West Division.
Flint Firebirds:
In an effort to keep the community safe, the Firebirds did their part in promoting some healthy guidelines. They’ve kept the messages of encouragement flowing with positive words from Cody Morgan, Riley McCourt, and Luke Cavallin.
They’re also keeping the kids busy at home with some printable activity pages available on their website, including the specially made Firebird word search pictured below.
We want you to stay safe and healthy Firebirds Nation! Here are Hot Wing’s five tips to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases like COVID-19.

Windsor Spitfires:
Though we all may be staying at home, the Spits have been ensuring everyone’s keeping in hockey shape with their ongoing Stay at Home Hockey Skills Challenge. They’ve been steadily posting videos that feature Spitfires skaters completing hockey skills from the comfort of their homes and encouraging others to send in their own clips.
They’ve also put together some fun colouring pages to keep the young fans occupied at home – Windsor Spitfires style, of course.
The Spitfires also teamed up with the City of Windsor in their efforts to help those in need within the community, providing $100,000 to purchase grocery store gift cards for local families with children in the Ontario Works (OW) program.
They also teamed up with members of the Windsor community to help launch a new local food bank, and are continuing to raise awareness about the importance of giving blood.
Day one of our Stay at Home Hockey Skills Challenge with Matthew Maggio (@mattmaggio81)- Be sure to send in your clips and tag us! Everyday this week we will post a new video! #WEAREONE pic.twitter.com/aHx8cROk6E
