Petes’ Purdeller representing Italy at U20 Division 1B World Championship
The OHL hasn’t seen too many Italian players over the years, but Peterborough Petes forward Tommy Purdeller is a good one.
The 19-year-old from Brunico, Italy is representing his country at the IIHF U20 World Championship, Division 1B tournament in Slovenia. He had a goal and an assist in Italy’s 5-1 win over Estonia on Monday before recording three assists in Tuesday’s 11-2 triumph over Croatia.
Selected by the Petes with the 15th overall pick of the 2022 CHL Import Draft, Purdeller has 16 points (7-9–16) through 27 games this season after hoisting the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the Petes last spring. He recorded 10 goals, eight assists and 18 points in 53 games in his first season.
Italy is playing for a chance to be promoted to Division 1A for the first time since 2016. They come off a sixth place finish last year.
