Petes’ Paquette commits to Queen’s for 2020-21
The Queen’s University Gaels announced via Twitter that overage Peterborough Petes defenceman Jacob Paquette has committed to the men’s hockey program for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
Paquette, 20, wraps up a five-year OHL career with the Kingston Frontenacs, Niagara IceDogs and the Petes over which he amassed 84 points in 296 games. A second round selection of the Frontenacs at the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, the Ottawa native spent three and a half seasons in Kingston before heading to Niagara midway through the 2018-19 campaign and eventually landing in Peterborough where he’d play out his final season in the maroon and white. He was a seventh round pick of the Nashville Predators at the 2017 NHL Draft and received an invite to the Columbus Blue Jackets’ rookie camp as a free agent in 2019.
Paquette joins a Queen’s recruiting class that includes fellow OHL grads Anthony Popovich (Flint), Calvin Martin (Mississauga), Thomas Stevenson (Windsor) and former Frontenacs teammate Jakob Brahaney (Kingston).
The Gaels put forth a 12-13-1-2 record this past season, finishing seventh in the OUA East Division. They won a Queen’s Cup title in 2019.
