Storm surge to top of Western Conference
The Guelph Storm have surged to the top of the Western Conference, defeating the London Knights a second straight time on Saturday, this time by a score of 4-1. Guelph’s annual Teddy Bear Toss game featured Matthew Papais and Braeden Bowman each with a goal and an assist. OHL Goaltender of the Week Owen Bennett stopped 25 of 26 shots for the win, his seventh in his past eight starts. The Storm are now 4-0 against London this season.

Six straight for the Colts
The Barrie Colts defeated Ottawa 5-2 on Saturday, doing so without Colorado Avalanche prospect Oskar Olausson who is off to represent Sweden at the 2022 World Juniors. Barrie’s sixth straight win featured a pair of assists from LA Kings first round pick Brandt Clarke, who sits tied with Olausson, recording 25 points (5-20–25) through 21 games. Clarke’s 25 points are tied for the second-most among OHL defencemen this season. The 14-7-2-0 Colts sit third in the Central Division, but have six games in hand on the North Bay Battalion, who they trail by six points.

Spits on a six-game roll after winning weekend
Windsor’s Louka Henault scored an overtime winner, leading the Spitfires to a 4-3 win against Sue Ste. Marie on Thursday. Dallas Stars prospect Wyatt Johnston assisted on Henault’s deciding marker, with the pair both finishing with a goal and two assists each. Tye Kartye scored his 22nd goal of the season for the Greyhounds, but Windsor would outshoot Sault Ste. Marie 46-32. The streak continued as Windsor defeated Saginaw 7-5 on Friday, putting them in a tie for first place in the West Division. Wyatt Johnston and Daniel D’Amico each had a goal and two assists for Windsor, leading the Spitfires to their sixth straight win. Xavier Medina is on a six-game winning streak that dates back to Nov. 3rd.

Tullio takeover
Edmonton Oilers prospect and OHL Player of the Week Ty Tullio scored a natural hat trick on Friday, leading Oshawa to a 4-2 win against Ottawa. Scoring his first OHL trio, Tullio would lead the Generals to victory with the help of Zachary Paputsakis, who made 32 saves before a hometown crowd for the win. Coming back for more, Tullio followed his Friday hat trick with a four-point performance on Saturday (1-3–4), defeating Peterborough 8-4. Stuart Rolofs also posted a career-high four points with two goals and two assists, giving him nine points (3-6–9) through five games with Oshawa. The Generals entered the break as winners of four straight.

Steelheads to the top of the Central
Mississauga defeated Hamilton 4-1 on Wednesday evening, as James Hardie scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season for the Steelheads. A pair of rookies were also big contributors in Zakary Lavoie and Owen Beck, each recording two assists. The winning continued as Mississauga pulled into a first-place tie with North Bay atop the Central Division with a 2-1 win against the Battalion on Friday. Handing North Bay their fourth straight loss, Mississauga enters the break at 17-7-1-1, even with North Bay at 36 points with three games in hand. Roman Basran leads OHL goaltenders with a 2.40 goals-against average.

Top-scoring club in the OHL
Hamilton took over as the top-scoring club in the OHL after a 10-5 win against Peterborough on Friday. Scoring 10 goals in a second straight encounter with the Petes, Ryan Humphrey and Nathan Staios both had a goal and three assists for the Bulldogs as rookie Cole Brown ignited the Teddy Bear Toss with his first of two on the night 9:14 into the first period. The Bulldogs have filled the net despite missing Seattle Kraken prospect Ryan Winterton all season. They’re looking forward to getting him onto the ice in the second half.

Dogs dig up points
Niagara defeated North Bay in overtime on Thursday, prevailing 7-6 on a winning goal from Dakota Betts. Putting an end to their three-game skid, the game included five third period goals as rookie Dylan Roobroeck scored his first in the OHL and first-year defender Alec Leonard also scored for Niagara. Another first, rookie Joseph Costanzo made 26 saves for his first OHL win, improving the IceDogs to 7-16-0-1.

Hounds hit the break on a high note
After an overtime loss to Windsor on Thursday, the Greyhounds bounced back, taking a 4-3 OT decision over Kitchener on Friday thanks to heroics from Rory Kerins. Tye Kartye scored his league-leading 23rd goal of the season and set up Kerins for the game winner with 16 seconds to spare in overtime. Rookie defenceman Kirill Kudryavtsev also had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds as Tucker Tynan made 39 saves for his first win with the Soo.

Flint fires it up
Six different goal-scorers found the back of the net for Flint as the Firebirds evened their season series with rival Saginaw, winning Wednesday’s matchup 6-4. Riley Piercey scored in a seventh straight game, finding his 11th goal of the season, as Brennan Othmann became the OHL’s fourth 20-goal scorer, striking shorthanded late in the second period to put the ‘Birds ahead for good. Luke Cavallin returned to the crease for the first time since Nov. 27th, making 23 saves for the win, improving Flint’s record to 13-10-0-1.
