OHL talent captures World Junior gold with United States
Three OHL players will return from Sweden with gold medals as the United States defeated the host team in Friday’s Gold Medal Game by a score of 6-2.
Forwards Gavin Hayes (Flint Firebirds) and Carey Terrance (Erie Otters) join goaltender Sam Hillebrandt (Barrie Colts) as World Junior champions, helping the Americans claim their sixth gold medal and first since 2021.
A third round pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022, Hayes recorded a pair of assists across seven games. Hillebrandt and Terrance, both 18-year-olds, didn’t see game action.
The United States played to an overall record of 7-0 in the tournament.
