OHL Power Rankings: Nov. 25, 2024
The London Knights have extended their current winning streak to 15 games as they continue to hold top spot in the OHL Power Rankings as November enters its final week.
Who’s up:
Windsor Spitfires – up one spot to #2 this week
The Spits had a tough assignment last week and passed with flying colours, defeating Barrie, Kitchener and Ottawa in a three-in-three. Full marks to goaltenders Joey Costanzo and Carter Froggett who both performed well while Liam Greentree continues to lead the team offensively, recording two goals and an assist in Saturday’s 6-3 win over Ottawa.
Kingston Frontenacs – up two spots to #8 this week
The Fronts aren’t fizzling out! Kingston beat Peterborough, Brantford and North Bay in a weekend three-in-three. Saturday’s road win over the Bulldogs featured a big third period push that saw the Fronts take control of the game. Rookie netminder Gavin Betts was the star of Sunday’s win, making 29 saves in his OHL debut.
Brampton Steelheads – up one spot to #11 this week
The Trout have taken some heat on the rankings in past weeks, but despite injury problems had themselves a solid showing. Brampton rebounded from a loss to Erie with wins over Niagara and Sault Ste. Marie as Carson Rehkopf and Kieran Witkowski joined forces for hat-tricks on Sunday. The Steelheads are on the road in Sarnia and Saginaw next weekend.
Sudbury Wolves – up three spots to #14 this week
The Wolves took exception to being left off last week’s list, rattling off victories over Guelph and Niagara before losing 4-2 in Oshawa on Sunday night. Winnipeg Jets prospect Kieron Walton has developed into a consistent producer, boasting 33 points (13-20–33) over 23 games. Nate Krawchuk has carried the load in goal, starting the club’s last nine consecutive games.
Peterborough Petes – up two spots to #15 this week
Hey, these aren’t the standings, and we’re going to celebrate some Peterborough Petes success! The maroon and white picked up three points last week, losing in a shootout to Kingston before beating the North Bay Battalion 4-1 on Saturday. Local goaltending product Easton Rye was big in the win, turning aside 42 shots. Sophomore forward Aiden Young leads the Petes with seven goals on the season. The task doesn’t get any easier, with the top-ranked London Knights visiting the PMC on Thursday.
Who’s down:
Kitchener Rangers – down one spot to #3 this week
The Blueshirts had the task of facing the #1, #3 and #4 teams on the rankings last week, dropping two of those three matchups. The Rangers lost 3-1 decisions against both London and Windsor before Jackson Parsons stopped all 33 shots he faced on his 20th birthday in Erie on Saturday as Kitchener beat the Otters 4-0. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Jack Pridham continued making a strong impression and has eight points (4-4–8) through his first five games.
Niagara IceDogs – down two spots to #10 this week
The IceDogs beat Sault Ste. Marie before back-to-back losses against Brampton and Sudbury. The IceDogs try and make the most of the schedule this coming week as they face a pair of unranked teams in Guelph and Flint on home ice before battling the league’s 20th-place Peterborough Petes on the road Sunday afternoon.
Soo Greyhounds – down one spot to #12 this week
The Hounds had a tough trip, surrendering 21 goals over three road losses last week. The Greyhounds have taken their lumps on the injury front, losing Spencer Evans, Noel Nordh, Andrew Gibson, Owen Allard, Christopher Brown and Charlie Schenkel in recent weeks.
Guelph Storm – down three spots and off the list this week
The Storm went up north and came back empty-handed, losing in North Bay and Sudbury. They’ll visit the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday before tough home matchups against Windsor and Kitchener on Friday and Sunday.
Flint Firebirds – down two spots and off the list this week
The Firebirds have not been able to solve their I-75 rival the Saginaw Spirit, dropping their third decision against them this past week, a series that has seen the Firebirds surrender at least seven goals in all three meetings. Flint came up short at home against Barrie on Saturday in a 3-2 final.
