The Spirit will be in a position to clinch a playoff spot this week.
Guelph Storm – up two spots to #15 this week
It was a week of mixed results for the Storm, who notably walloped the Owen Sound Attack 8-1 on Friday. The offence dried up in Saturday’s 2-0 shutout loss to the Soo Greyhounds. The Storm have booked their playoff ticket, looking to find some consistency in the remaining six games of the schedule, embarking on them without centreman Tyler Hopkins who is sidelined with an injury.
Who’s down:
Kitchener Rangers – down one spot to #2 this week
The Rangers defeated Sarnia and Sault Ste. Marie before seeing their seven-game winning streak snapped on Sunday in Windsor, losing to the Spitfires for the first time in four meetings this season. Barrie Colts – down one spot to #3 this week
The Colts’ lone blemish came against rival Brantford in a 5-3 loss at home on Thursday, marking the first time Barrie has lost at home since Jan. 3rd. The Central Division champions have a 30-goal scorer in Cole Beaudoin, while Brad Gardiner (28) and Kashawn Aitcheson (27) could also hit the milestone by season’s end. The Colts prepare for a tough home matchup against the Ottawa 67’s on Thursday.
Windsor Spitfires – down one spot to #5 this week
The Spits lost to division rival Flint before rebounding in a big way on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers. Joey Costanzo was very good over the weekend, becoming the first Spitfires goaltender to win 100 games with the franchise on Sunday. Everyone’ll have to pick up some slack the rest of the way with Ethan Belchetz sidelined long-term. Rookie forward Caden Harvey stepped up with two goals in Sunday’s win. The West Division will be a fight to the finish between the Spitfires and Firebirds.
North Bay Battalion – down one spot to #8 this week
