OHL Power Rankings: Feb. 24, 2025
We’re in the final stretch of the season with the race to the OHL Playoffs heating up as February nears an end! Here’s the latest OHL Power Rankings.
Who’s up:
Kitchener Rangers – up three spots to #1 this week
The Blueshirts climb back into top spot after besting the London Knights 5-4 in overtime on Sunday evening courtesy an Adrian Misaljevic game-winner. Kitchener topped the Barrie Colts 4-1 at home on Friday night, and carry a 40-13-4-1 record into this week as they prepare to face the rival Guelph Storm at home on Tuesday.
Oshawa Generals – up two spots to #5 this week
The Gennies won three of four last week with their one blemish coming in a 4-2 loss to the Brampton Steelheads. Oshawa beat the Erie Otters twice including a 2-1 OT win on Family Day, and wrapped up the week with a 5-1 victory over the rival Kingston Frontenacs. The Generals are playoff-bound and return to action in a big game on Friday night when they visit the Brantford Bulldogs.
Kingston Frontenacs – up two spots to #6 this week
The Frontenacs rolled to wins over Barrie, Brantford and Niagara before losing 5-1 to Oshawa on Sunday night. The Fronts have three different 30+ goal-scorers in their lineup in Jacob Battaglia, Cedrick Guindon and Tuomas Uronen.
Brampton Steelheads – up three spots to #8 this week
The Trout have come alive in the past few weeks, grabbing seven of a possible eight points over a four-game set this past week. The Steelheads blanked the Niagara IceDogs 6-0, beat Oshawa 4-2, lost to London 4-3 in overtime and overwhelmed the Sudbury Wolves 8-1. Draft eligible winger Porter Martone became the club’s new single season point-producing record-holder, entering a new week with 87 (29-58–87) to his credit. Carson Rehkopf and Luke Misa have scored 37 and 32 goals respectively. The Steelheads leapfrogged the Niagara IceDogs in the Eastern Conference standings, climbing into fifth place.
North Bay Battalion – up three spots to #12 this week
The Troops had success on their western road swing, rebounding from a 5-1 loss in Saginaw with victories over Flint and Sarnia. Mike McIvor was outstanding in the crease last week, helping the Troops take a four-point lead over Ottawa for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, holding two games in hand.
Flint Firebirds – up one spot to #13 this week
The Firebrids dropped consecutive 4-1 decisions against London and North Bay before defeating the Windsor Spitfires 5-4 at home on Saturday courtesy a game-winner from Alex Kostov. The Firebirds are in Erie on Monday night, trailing the fifth place Otters by eight points in the Western Conference standings.
Guelph Storm – up two spots to #15 this week
The Stormers grabbed five of a possible six points last week, out-duelling the Sudbury Wolves 7-6 at home on Family Day before losing 4-3 in overtime to the Soo Greyhounds on Friday and defeating the Saginaw Spirit 5-2 on Saturday. Jett Luchanko scored a pair of goals in Saturday’s win to keep Guelph’s playoff hopes alive. They trail Sault Ste. Marie and Owen Sound by four points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Soo Greyhounds – up one spot to #16 this week
The Hounds split 4-3 outcomes, defeating the Guelph Storm in OT on a Chase Reid game-winner before earning a point in Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Owen Sound Attack, a game that got away late. The Greyhounds are tied with the Attack for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference and are two games into a seven-game home stand that continues on Tuesday against North Bay.
Who’s down:
London Knights – down one spot to #2 this week
The Knights had another stellar week with wins over Flint, Brampton and Erie before losing the big one in overtime on Sunday as the Kitchener Rangers took a 5-4 decision at Canada Life Place. The Knights sit atop the OHL standings with a 45-8-2-0 record as Winnipeg Jets prospect Jacob Julien owns a current 15-game point streak that dates back to Jan. 17th. The Knights host Owen Sound on Friday.
Windsor Spitfires – down two spots to #4 this week
Prepare for lots of goals when you go to a Spitfires game. Windsor went 2-2 last week, ending things on a high note with a 7-3 triumph over the Saginaw Spirit as Ilya Protas joined the 40-goal club. Both he and captain Liam Greentree are closing in on 100 points as the two have 40 more points than the next-highest scorer in the Windsor lineup. The Spitfires hit the road for Peterborough, Kingston and Ottawa starting Thursday.
Barrie Colts – down one spot to #7 this week
The Colts lose three in a row prior to securing a playoff spot on Saturday with a 4-3 win over the Peterborough Petes. Draft eligible blueliner Kashawn Aitcheson was Saturday’s hero as he scored a pair of third period goals to put the Colts back in the win column.
Saginaw Spirit – down four spots to #9 this week
The Spirit came back down to earth on Saturday and Sunday, seeing a six-game winning streak snapped. They took back-to-back losses against Guelph and Windsor, but continue to hold down home ice advantage in the first round of the OHL Playoffs with a 32-23-1-1 record. Top NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa made Spirit history, recording the club’s highest single season total for both goals (54) and points (113) as he leads the OHL in the latter department.
Erie Otters – down one spot to #10 this week
Erie went 0-3 last week with a pair of losses to Oshawa before dropping a 5-1 decision at home to the London Knights on Saturday. It’s a quick turnaround for the Otters, who host the Flint Firebirds in a rescheduled game Monday night at Erie Insurance Arena.
Sudbury Wolves – down one spot to #14 this week
The wild Sudbury Wolves rollercoaster continues as they fell to the Guelph Storm 7-6 on Family Day and were on opposite sides of 8-1 outcomes against Owen Sound and Brampton this past weekend. The Wolves were in some suspension trouble over the weekend, missing star forwards Kieron Walton and Quentin Musty from their lineup.
Niagara IceDogs – down five spots and off the list this week
A promising season has taken a sharp turn for the IceDogs, who are reeling in the midst of a 10-game losing slide to fall out of the power rankings this week. Goaltenders Owen Flores and Charlie Robertson are both dealing with injuries, thrusting rookie Matthew Humphries into the starter’s role for the time being. The IceDogs are in Owen Sound on Wednesday night, still owning a respectable 27-22-3-4 record.
Ottawa 67’s – down one spot and off the list this week
The 67’s lost to North Bay and Brantford last week, but managed to beat the Niagara IceDogs 6-2. Ottawa sits four points out of a playoff spot but the eighth place North Bay Battalion hold a pair of games in hand, making every matchup the rest of the way very important for the Barber Poles.
