Who’s up:
London Knights – up two spots to #1 this week
The Knights bested the Kitchener Rangers 5-3 at home on Tuesday before topping the Peterborough Petes 3-1 at Canada Life Place on Friday. Barrie Colts – up one spot to #4 this week
The Colts were winners over Kingston and Sault Ste. Marie last week, beating the Frontenacs 3-2 in a showdown for first place in the Eastern Conference at home on Tuesday. Dallas Stars first round pick Emil Hemming has heated up post-World Juniors, with points in his last seven games. Goaltenders Ben Hrebik and Sam Hillebrandt have both been stellar in the crease.
Saginaw Spirit – up two spots to #7 this week
The Spirit can seemingly score at will, rising two spots on this week’s list following wins over Windsor and Guelph around a 4-2 loss to Brantford. New addition Igor Chernyshov has been unstoppable, with 14 points (8-6–14) through his first five games. Michael Misa enters the week one point shy of 100, riding a 15-game point streak. He’ll try and hit the century mark in Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday.
Flint Firebirds – up two spots to #13 this week
The ‘Birds had a successful eastern trip, defeating Peterborough, losing 3-1 in Kingston and ending the weekend with a 5-2 win in Ottawa. Nathan Day became the winningest goaltender in club history, capturing his 63rd career victory on Thursday at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Tampa Bay Lightning pick Kaden Pitre comes off a five-assist performance on Sunday.
Brampton Steelheads – up three spots to #14 this week
The Trout are back with a vengeance! After being left off last week’s list, Brampton proceeded to score a combined 16 goals in wins over capable opponents in Erie and Kingston. Porter Martone led the way with nine points (3-6–9) across the two victories while Carson Rehkopf had a six-point showing, scoring his 10th career OHL hat-trick on Friday.
Who’s down:
Kitchener Rangers – down one spot to #2 this week
The Blueshirts lost the big one on Tuesday in London, but came back strong with wins over Owen Sound and Niagara to close out the week. The Rangers are back in the OHL Playoffs once again following Saturday’s 9-1 drubbing of the IceDogs that saw Jackson Parsons become the first CHL goaltender to reach 30 wins on the season.
Windsor Spitfires – down one spot to #3 this week
The Spits started their week with a 6-3 home loss against Saginaw before coming back strong in victories over Sarnia and Brantford. Saturday’s win over the Bulldogs featured an OT winner from Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas as both he and Liam Greentree have 35 goals on the season. The Spits are back in action on Thursday at home to Sarnia as they look to secure a spot in the OHL Playoffs.
Brantford Bulldogs – down one spot to #5 this week
The Bulldogs had a stellar with, capturing five of a possible six points with their one blemish being a 3-2 overtime loss in Windsor. The Barrie Colts were perfect last week, and jump one spot ahead of the Bulldogs, who remain one of the league’s hottest teams featuring 52-goal scorer Nick Lardis, who made club history over the weekend.
Kingston Frontenacs – down one spot to #8 this week
The Fronts split a four-game week with wins over Flint and Owen Sound and losses to Barrie and Brampton. The Kingston attack is led by a pair of 30-goal scorers in Jacob Battaglia and Cedrick Guindon while Tuomas Uronen is two shy of joining them in that department. The Frontenacs sit tied with Oshawa for first place in the East Division. They’re home to the Kitchener Rangers on Friday.
Niagara IceDogs – down one spot to #9 this week
The IceDogs were outscored 16-4 with a pair of forgettable outings against Sudbury and Kitchener. Niagara sits seven points back of Kingston in the fight for home ice in the first round of the OHL Playoffs, and have their work cut out for them as they visit Erie and Brantford on Wednesday and Friday.
Peterborough Petes – down one spot to #15 this week
The Petes ended the week on a high note, defeating the Sarnia Sting 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night. The win follows losses in London and Windsor. Peterborough sits five points out of a playoff spot with 17 games left on their schedule.
Sarnia Sting – down three spots to #16 this week
The Sting lost to both Windsor and Peterborough last week, falling three points back of Flint to sit in seventh in the Western Conference.
Soo Greyhounds – down one spot and off the list this week
The Hounds are back on the outside looking in following road losses against Oshawa and Barrie. They did manage to beat the North Bay Battalion 7-4 to start the week. Sault Ste. Marie holds down the last playoff spot in the Western Conference, holding a two-point cushion on Owen Sound.
