OHL Power Rankings: Dec. 2, 2024
The London Knights have stretched their winning streak to 18 and we can all look forward to a 2 vs. 3 showdown this week as Kitchener visits Windsor on Saturday. Here’s the latest OHL Power Rankings.
Who’s up:
Barrie Colts – up one spot to #4 this week
The Colts split a home-and-home with Sudbury before taking it to the Brantford Bulldogs, winning 6-2 on teddy bear toss night Saturday at Sadlon Arena. Friday marked goaltender Ben Hrebik’s first loss of the season following a 6-0 start. Beau Jelsma scored the Colts’ teddy bear toss goal on Saturday. Barrie is home to Flint on Thursday before stops in Kingston and Ottawa next weekend.
Oshawa Generals – up one spot to #6 this week
The Gennies rebounded from a 7-3 loss to Brantford on Friday, defeating the Kingston Frontenacs 8-5 on Sunday night. Allowing 12 goals in two games isn’t what you want to see, but the Generals did flex their muscle on the Frontenacs, improving to 4-1 against Kingston this season as they trail them by one point for first place in the East Division standings. Sunday’s win was headlined by a six-point showing (4-2–6) from Beckett Sennecke while Matthew Buckley brought down the bears in Oshawa.
Brampton Steelheads – up one spot to #10 this week
The Steelheads took care of business in the West Division, scoring wins in both Sarnia and Saginaw. Calgary Flames prospect Luke Misa led the way with five points (1-4–5) in the pair of games while Carson Rehkopf scored three times. Brampton sits fourth in the Central Division with a record of 13-10-1-0.
Sudbury Wolves – up three spots to #11 this week
The Wolves are climbing the list, splitting a set with the Barrie Colts last week. Winnipeg Jets prospect Kieron Walton remains red hot with goals in five straight games. He leads Sudbury offensively with 39 points (16-23–39) over 25 games. They’ll have to go it without star forward Quentin Musty for awhile after he suffered an injury on Nov. 24th. One other note – that new goal light water tower thing is really cool.
North Bay Battalion – up one spot to #15 this week
The Troops won their lone game last week, defeating the Soo Greyhounds 3-2 on Saturday as Ethan Procyszyn scored the deciding goal with nine seconds remaining.
Flint Firebirds – up one spot to #16 this week
The Birds are back on the radar following a pair of wins last week. They snuck past the Sarnia Sting in a shootout, winning 3-2 on Wednesday before kicking-off a five-game road trip with a commanding 8-2 win in Niagara on Friday. Saturday’s game in Erie was postponed due to weather but the Firebirds are back on the road in Barrie, Sudbury and North Bay next weekend.
Who’s down:
Erie Otters – down one spot to #5 this week
The Otters lost their only matchup last week, dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime on Wednesday against the Owen Sound Attack as former Otter Bruce McDonald scored the deciding goal.
Saginaw Spirit – down one spot to #7 this week
The Spirit went through a stretch of three straight losses, two of which came to start the week as they came up on the wrong end of a 7-2 decision against the Windsor Spitfires and fell at home on Saturday, losing 5-3 to the Brampton Steelheads. The Spirit rebounded on Sunday in Sarnia, defeating the Sting 4-1 as Michael Misa scored his league-leading 25th goal of the season.
Niagara IceDogs – down two spots to #12 this week
The IceDogs beat Guelph to start the week, but lost their next two games, falling 8-2 to visiting Flint before a 4-3 overtime loss to the last place Peterborough Petes on Sunday.
Soo Greyhounds – down one spot to #13 this week
The Hounds lost their only game last week, coming up short against the North Bay Battalion in the final seconds as the Troops took a 3-2 win at GFL Memorial Gardens on Saturday. The Hounds have lost four in a row and depart for Saginaw, Kitchener and Owen Sound this week.
Ottawa 67’s – down one spot to #14 this week
The Barber Poles beat Peterborough 4-2 on Friday, a win that was quickly forgotten as the London Knights handed the 67’s a 10-3 beating on Sunday in the nation’s capital.
Peterborough Petes – down two spots and off the list this week
It was fun while it lasted. The stars aligned last week for the Petes to slip into the top-16, but losses to London and Ottawa to start the week but them behind the eight-ball. Credit to the maroon and white for prevailing over Niagara in overtime on Sunday, but with success coming from teams higher up in the standings over the weekend, they’ve been pushed down the list. Sarnia, Brantford and Guelph are on deck this week – maybe we’ll see the Petes again soon?
