This season, 241 OHL alumni are suiting up across U SPORTS and NCAA hockey programs. Each week, we’ll highlight standout performances and rising storylines from both leagues.

Ty Petrou – Golden Hawks Player of the Week
Ty Petrou (Flint, Oshawa) delivered a standout weekend for the Golden Hawks, helping snap the team’s slump during a two‑game road trip against Lakehead. The first‑year centreman opened the series with a goal and an assist in a tight overtime loss, then followed it up with a dominant performance in the rematch – scoring the opener and adding two third‑period assists in a 7-5 comeback win. Petrou finished the weekend with five points, his third multi‑point outing of the season, while winning 24 of 38 faceoffs. He now sits at 11 points on the year, with three goals and eight assists.
Lucas Peric – Gaels Player of the Week
Lucas Peric (Ottawa, Kingston) played the hero in Queen’s 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Gee‑Gees, striking twice to power the Gaels’ offence. He opened the scoring early to set the tone, then added a crucial second‑period goal that ultimately stood as the difference in a tightly contested matchup.
Dan Murphy – Earns First Career Shutout
Dan Murphy (Erie) turned in a milestone performance for his squad, stopping all 27 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout in a 5-0 win over the York Lions.

Feature Stories of the Week (NCAA):
Austin Elliott – Named one of Hockey East’s Players of the Week
Austin Elliott (London) delivered a strong showing in his two‑game set against No. 10 UConn, stopping 24 shots in a 5-3 victory before adding 25 more saves in a 5-1 loss that featured two empty‑net goals and a late power‑play tally.
Sam Hillebrandt – Big Ten Third Star of the Week
Sam Hillebrandt (Barrie) was named the Big Ten Third Star after stopping 26 of 27 shots – including all 11 he faced in the third period – in Ohio State’s 2-1 upset of Michigan State on Saturday; he came off the bench and played two periods on Friday, making 14 saves. He finished the weekend with a 1.80 GAA and a .930 SV%, earning his first career win.
Anthony Romani – Rookie of the Month (December)
Anthony Romani (North Bay, Barrie) earned Rookie of the Month honours for December after producing six points (4-2–6) in four games. His month was highlighted by a two‑goal performance in a win over No. 1/1 Michigan on Dec. 6, followed by Big Ten Third Star of the Week recognition on Dec. 30. He also capped off the stretch by being named to the Great Lakes Invitational All‑Tournament Team.
Jack Ivankovic – Goaltender of the Month (December)
Jack Ivankovic (Mississauga/Brampton) earned December’s Goaltender of the Month recognition after posting a stellar 1.02 GAA and a .964 SV% for top‑ranked Michigan. His month included a road shutout of No. 3/3 Michigan State on Dec. 5, and he also helped lead Team Canada to a bronze medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship.
Matteo Drobac – NCHC Goaltender of the Week
Matteo Drobac (Brantford Bulldogs) turned in his best weekend of the season for Miami during a road series at Arizona State, allowing only two goals across an overtime win and a narrow loss. He made 37 saves in Friday’s 2-1 OT victory – the most in a Miami win since Feb. 25, 2023 – and followed with 25 more stops in a 1-0 defeat. Drobac led the NCHC for the weekend with a .969 SV% and a 0.99 GAA, finishing with 62 saves on 64 shots while helping Miami go 7‑for‑7 on the penalty kill.
Brayden Gillespie – ECAC Rookie of the Month
Brayden Gillespie (Guelph/Brampton) was named ECAC Rookie of the Month after a dominant December in which he went 3‑0‑0 with a 0.92 GAA and a .958 SV%. On Dec. 6, he posted his first collegiate shutout with a 31‑save performance in Union’s 4-0 win over Quinnipiac.
Porter Martone – Big Ten Second Star of the Week
Porter Martone (Mississauga/Brampton) was named the Big Ten Second Star after posting a conference-best three goals and five points on the weekend. He leads the Michigan Spartans with 14 goals while ranking second on the team with 25 points.
