OHL Notebook: Jan. 27th, 2026

Here’s a look at some of the top storylines from a busy weekend across the league:

 

George Makes History

With his goal against the London Knights on Wednesday night, Soo Greyhounds goaltender Carter George became the first netminder in OHL history – and just the second in CHL history – to score twice in his career. Since being acquired, George is 5-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage – earning him Mary Brown’s Chicken Goaltender of the Week honours. The Greyhounds are also riding an eight-game winning streak.

 

Rangers on a Heater

The Kitchener Rangers went 3-0 this past week, extending their winning streak to seven games. They currently sit atop the Midwest Division with 64 points and a 30-11-3-1 record. Forward Christian Humphreys extended his league-leading point streak (4-14–18) to 11 games, while Jack Pridham has been one of the OHL’s top performers as of late, with 16 points (8-8–16) over eight January matchups. 

 

Shurygin Sets Career-High

Saginaw netminder Stepan Shurygin set a new career high on Thursday night, turning aside 48 of 49 shots as the Spirit earned a 4-1 win over Peterborough despite being outshot 49-21.

 

Pharand & Gardiner Reach 300 Games

Alex Pharand and Brad Gardiner each skated in their 300th OHL regular-season game this past week, becoming the fourth and fifth players born this millennium to reach the milestone.

 

OHL Completes Sweep Over QMHL

The OHL went a perfect 4-0 against the QMHL in this season’s interleague matchups. Sudbury forward Rowan Henderson tied the game late in regulation before scoring the overtime winner less than two minutes into the extra frame as the Wolves defeated the QMJHL’s Huskies 4-3, completing the crossover sweep. The win also marked Sudbury’s fourth straight game earning a point. 

 

Fetterolf Leads Goalie Stats

Goaltender Ryder Fetterolf made 16 saves on Sunday for his fourth shutout of the season, blanking the Spirit 6-0 and helping the Ottawa 67’s extend their winning streak to six games. He currently leads the league in goals-against average (1.94), save percentage (.926), and shutouts.

 

Bulldogs Extend Point Streak

Tied with the 67’s for first overall in the league, the Bulldogs went 2-0-1 this week, extending their point streak to nine games. Jake O’Brien powered the offence with nine points (4-5–9) over three games. In Sunday’s matchup against Barrie, the captain recorded a four-point performance (2-2–4), earning him Player of the Week honours. 

 

London Erupts for Ten Goals

Jaxon Cover recorded his first career hat trick on Sunday, leading the Knights to a 10-2 victory over the Petes. Braidy Wassilyn (2-1–3) and Rene Van Bommel (1-2–3) each picked up three points, while goaltender Aleksei Medvedev stopped 38 of 40 shots in the win. 

 

Harper Ties Record

With his assist on Friday, Levi Harper has tied Zayne Parekh’s record for the most points by a rookie defenseman in Saginaw Spirit history. Harper now has 37 points (8-29–37) in 45 games.

 

Edgar Lights the Lamp

Niagara IceDogs forward Ryserson Edgar found the back of the net four times in just two games this week, earning Rookie of the Week honours. The centerman has 31 points (14-17–31) in 41 games and sits seventh among league rookies in scoring. 

 

Colts Sit Atop Central Division

Barrie’s league-leading eight-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday, but not before rookie goaltender Arvin Jaswal stopped all 20 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season – both of which have come against the Steelheads. The Colts remain firmly atop the Central Division with a 30-11-2-4 record.
