OHL News – Radio Edition for Mar 22/19
OHL News – Radio Edition with host Terry Doyle and presented by Bauer returns for the 2018-19 regular season bringing fans insight from feature guests as well as news and notes from around the league each and every week over the airwaves.
This week’s segment features OHL graduate Kris Bennett who won a U Sports National Championship with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Men’s Hockey Team at the University Cup held last weekend in Lethbridge. It marked the third title in four years for the Reds who defeated the Alberta Golden Bears 4-2 in Sunday’s Final.
Bennett, a 23-year-old from Brampton, Ont., just completed his second season at UNB after playing parts of five seasons with the Saginaw Spirit. Taking advantage of his OHL education package, Bennett is already a decorated player in the U Sports circuit having been named to the University Cup Tournament All-Star Team last week, and earning AUS Rookie of the Year honours one year ago. Bennett was one of six OHL Alumni to play for the Reds this season. His time in the OHL included 195 games between 2012-17 compiling 114 points for the Spirit after being chosen in the third round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.
He chats with Doyle about his University Cup experience, sharing the moment with fellow OHL graduates, the success that UNB has had in developing players from the CHL, and how he’s grateful for the opportunities the OHL Scholarship Program has provided to further his education and hockey career.
