OHL mourns the loss of Mike Robinson
The OHL is mourning the tragic loss of alumnus Mike Robinson, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 32 in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
A new father, Robinson had travelled to Wisconsin for a golf trip and was found by police just past midnight on Wednesday, September 24th according to CTV News. He had been the victim of a drive-by shooting. Police said he died after succumbing to his injuries despite life-saving efforts from first responders.
Originally from Stouffville, ON, Robinson helped guide his hometown Spirit to an OJHL championship in 2012 before playing two seasons with the Niagara IceDogs from 2012-14. He was selected by the Barrie Colts in the 15th round of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. Robinson played five seasons of U SPORTS men’s hockey at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology from 2014-19 before playing one year professionally between Germany and Belgium.
Robinson was most recently living in Pennsylvania, working with an indoor golfing company and often travelled around the U.S. to play. He had hit his first-ever hole-in-one during the Sheboygan Falls trip, just prior to his death.
The OHL extends thoughts and condolences to Mike Robinson’s family and friends at this very difficult time. A GoFundMe has been set up in support of Mike’s young family.
