OHL mourns the loss of Leon Stickle
The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by news of the passing of former long-time National Hockey League linesman and OHL officiating supervisor Leon Stickle, who passed away on Wednesday, November 5th at the age of 77.
Born in Toronto, raised in Milton and a resident of Elora for many years in his retirement, Stickle officiated in the NHL from 1970-97. He worked six different Stanley Cup Finals, a total of 2,069 regular season games, 206 playoff games, two Canada Cups, as well as four NHL All-Star Games.
An avid golfer, gardner and enthusiastic story-teller, Stickle mentored the OHL’s officials for several seasons, assisting in their development. He was inducted into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
Beloved husband of Nancy for 58 years, Stickle is remembered by three children, his grandchildren and countless friends and members of the hockey community.
