OHL Mourns the Loss of Brent Jarrett
The Ontario Hockey League is mourning the loss of former Windsor Spitfires and Soo Greyhounds forward Brent Jarrett, who passed away this past Saturday at the age of 65 following a battle with brain cancer.
Jarrett played parts of three OHL seasons from 1977-80, starting with his hometown Greyhounds before being dealt to the Windsor Spitfires midway through 1978-79 in exchange for eventual NHL forward Dave Hannan.
Jarrett hit his stride under head coach Wayne Maxner in Windsor, playing alongside such names as Blair Barnes, Paul Gagne and Ernie Godden. He busted out for 118 points (30-88–118) over 63 games in his final season before graduating to a pro career where he became a fan favourite with the IHL’s Kalamazoo K-Wings, where he remains the club’s all-time leader in assists (307) today. Jarrett’s No. 11 jersey was retired by the franchise just last month on Jan. 18, 2025.
Following retirement, Jarrett opened a sporting goods store and remained in Kalamazoo for the rest of his life. He also ran a hockey school in the community and coached youth hockey in West Michigan for more than 20 years.
Brent is survived by wife Kathy, and their two children, Claire and Blake.
