The latest instalment of OHL In The System takes a closer look at the Seattle Kraken, a franchise that has drawn heavily from the Ontario Hockey League since their arrival in the Emerald City.

Jake O’Brien (C) – Brantford Bulldogs (2023-25)
Selected: Round 1, 8th Overall (2025)

Age: 18
Jake O’Brien was selected eighth overall by the Seattle Kraken in this year’s draft following a standout sophomore campaign. The former OHL Rookie of the Year posted 98 points (32-66–98) in 66 games, showcasing his elite vision and offensive instincts. The 6-foot-2 centre comes from a strong athletic lineage and brings high-end playmaking to the Kraken’s prospect pool. He recently signed a three-year entry-level contract.
Nathan Villeneuve (C) – Sudbury Wolves (2022-25)
Selected: Round 2, 63rd Overall (2024)
OHL Career Stats: 168 GP, 69 G, 73 A, 142 PTS, +1
Age: 19
In his third OHL season, Nathan Villeneuve reached new career bests with 70 points (34-36–70), including 120 penalty minutes across 57 games. He added five points (4-1–5) during Sudbury’s four-game playoff series. Known for his gritty style and scoring touch, Villeneuve signed a three-year, two-way entry-level contract set to begin in the 2025–26 season.
Jakub Fibigr (D) – Mississauga/Brampton Steelheads (2023-25)
Selected: 6th Round, 202nd Overall (2024)
OHL Career Stats: 119 GP, 10 G, 66 A, 76 PTS, +20
Age: 19
Czech blueliner Jakub Fibigr delivered an impressive second OHL season with 33 points (3-30–33) in 58 games, ranking second among Steelheads defencemen. He made his AHL debut with Coachella Valley and represented Czechia at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship alongside fellow Kraken prospect Eduard Šalé.
Eduard Šalé (LW) – Barrie Colts & Kitchener Rangers (2023-24)
Selected: Round 1, 20th Overall (2023)
OHL Career Stats: 49 GP, 15 G, 23 A, 38 PTS, -2
Age: 20
Šalé spent the 2024-25 season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, where he posted 21 points (6-15–21) across 51 AHL games. He starred for Czechia at the 2025 World Juniors, scoring the dramatic bronze medal–clinching shootout winner against Sweden. He stepped up in the pressure-filled moment, taking five of the 14 total rounds.
Carson Rehkopf (RW) – Kitchener Rangers (2021-24), Brampton Steelheads (2024-25)
Selected: Round 2, 50th Overall (2023)
OHL Career Stats: 250 GP, 142 G, 131 A, 273 PTS, +17
Age: 20
After a massive offseason trade that sent 10 picks to the Kitchener Rangers, the Brampton Steelheads acquired scoring machine, Carson Rehkopf. With his new club, Rehkopf was named assistant captain and combined for 86 points (42-44–86) through 57 regular-season games, finishing second in team scoring. He made his AHL debut this past season with the Firebirds and also represented Canada at the IIHF World Juniors for the second straight year.
David Goyette (RW) – Sudbury Wolves (2021-24)
Selected: Round 2, 61st Overall (2022)
OHL Career Stats: 197 GP, 114 G, 168 A, 282 PTS, +17
Age: 21
The OHL’s leading scorer in 2023-24, Goyette transitioned to the AHL this past season and tallied 18 points (6-12–18) over 54 games. While quieter than expected in his rookie pro season, his elite skating and shooting will be key as he looks to take the next step in his development.
Ty Nelson (D) – North Bay Battalion (2021-24)
Selected: Round 3, 68th Overall (2022)
OHL Career Stats: 187 GP, 49 G, 130 A, 179 PTS, +56
Age: 21
Former first overall OHL pick Ty Nelson completed a strong rookie AHL season, playing in all 72 games for Coachella Valley – the only defenceman on the team to do so. He contributed 32 points (6-26–32) and brought a steady two-way presence to the Firebirds’ blue line.
Ryan Winterton (C) – Hamilton Bulldogs (2019-22), London Knights (2022-23)
Selected: Round 3, 67th Overall (2021)
OHL Career Stats: 124 GP, 44 G, 61 A, 105 PTS, +27
Age: 21
Winterton has split time between the Kraken and Firebirds over the past two seasons. He registered his first NHL point, an assist, on December 3rd. In the AHL, he added 37 points (18-19–37) in 56 games, along with two goals in four playoff appearances. His entry-level contract expires at the end of the upcoming season.
Tucker Robertson (C) – Peterborough Petes (2019-23)
Selected: Round 4, 123rd Overall (2022)
OHL Career Stats: 191 GP, 85 G, 104 A, 189 PTS, +10
Age: 22
A key member of the 2023 OHL Champion Peterborough Petes, Tucker Robertson, has played the past two seasons in both the AHL and ECHL. Known for his standout faceoff skills, he recorded 9 points (4-5–9) in 38 games with the Firebirds this past year.
Logan Morrison (C) – Hamilton Bulldogs (2018-23), Ottawa 67’s (2022-23)

OHL Career Stats: 222 GP, 111 G, 162 A, 273 PTS, +31
Age: 23
Ottawa 67’s graduate Logan Morrison suited up for the Firebirds in 2024–25, where he contributed 42 points (14-28–42) in 72 games. He made his NHL debut the year prior, appearing in four games with Seattle. Now entering his third pro season, Morrison will aim to push for a full-time role with the Kraken in the fall.
