As the 2025 NHL Draft concludes and development camps kick off across the National Hockey League, we’re diving into the current and former OHL talent within each NHL Club’s prospect pool.
This 32-part series will spotlight OHL players who are either signed to an NHL or AHL contract or are recently drafted, and are 25 years old or younger with 50 or fewer NHL games played.

First up, we explore the prospect pool of the San Jose Sharks.
Michael Misa (C) — Saginaw Spirit (2022-25)
Selected: 1st Round, 2nd Overall (2025)
OHL Career Stats: 177 GP, 113 G, 152 A, 265 PTS., +55
Age: 18
The OHL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2024-25 was chosen second overall by San Jose this past weekend in Los Angeles. Misa’s list of accomplishments continues to grow as he’s won a Memorial Cup, been the OHL’s Rookie of the Year and Scholastic Player of the Year, also winning the CHL scoring title with 134 points (62-72–134) this past season.
Simon Wang (D) – Oshawa Generals (2024-25)
Selected: 2nd Round, 33rd Overall (2025)
OHL Career Stats: 32 GP, 0 G, 2 A, 2 PTS., +3
Age: 17
Mobile 6-foot-6, 215Ib. Oshawa Generals defenceman Simon Wang didn’t put up big points, but did impress over an abbreviated season and 21-game playoff run, being chosen by the Sharks to begin the second round this past weekend.
Sam Dickinson (D) — London Knights (2022-25)
Selected: 1st Round, 11th Overall (2024)
OHL Career Stats: 135 GP, 56 G, 128 A, 184 PTS., +126
Age: 19
The OHL and CHL Defenceman of the Year guided his London Knights to a Memorial Cup title, and is showing signs of potentially being ready for the National Hockey League. Dickinson set a Knights record with 91 points (29-62–91) over 55 games, the most by a defenceman in franchise history.
Igor Chernyshov (LW) – Saginaw Spirit (2024-25)
Selected: 2nd Round, 33rd Overall (2024)
OHL Career Stats: 23 GP, 19 G, 36 A, 55 PTS., +10
Age: 19
Chernyshov’s impact in the OHL was immediate as the 6-foot-3, 225Ib. winger overpowered opponents and showed-off his elite release, scoring 19 goals in 23 games. He also showed he can distribute the puck, playing alongside elite talent in fellow Sharks prospect Michael Misa. Expect to see the big winger in the pro ranks this fall.
Quentin Musty (LW) — Sudbury Wolves (2021-25)
Selected: 1st Round, 26th Overall (2023)
OHL Career Stats: 189 GP, 111 G, 159 A, 270 PTS, +15
Age: 19
Few OHL players have been as offensively dominant as Musty over his four-year tenure with the Sudbury Wolves. The 6-foot-2, 200Ib. winger was a little late getting going in 2024-25, but still managed to put up another 30-goal season, finishing with 59 points over 33 games. Musty will put his best foot forward looking to crack the Sharks’ lineup in the fall.
Kasper Halttunen (RW) — London Knights (2023-25)
Selected: 2nd Round, 36th Overall (2023)
OHL Career Stats: 95 GP, 53 G, 49 A, 102 PTS, +31
Age: 20
The OHL’s Playoff MVP had another strong postseason showing, helping the Knights win an OHL Championship and Memorial Cup. Halttunen started the year in the American Hockey League before bringing his lethal shot to London where he scored 15 goals in 17 playoff contests. There’s NHL potential for 2025-26 as Halttunen looks to make the jump.
Braden Haché (D) — Kingston Frontenacs (2019-23), Barrie Colts (2023), Saginaw Spirit (2023-24)
Signed (AHL): June 3, 2024
OHL Career Stats: 217 GP, 15 G, 36 A, 51 PTS., +56
Age: 22
Haché captained the Saginaw Spirit to a Memorial Cup title on home ice last summer and made the jump to pro, playing his shutdown brand but also flashing some offence with 16 points (2-14–16) over 33 games with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder while appearing in 32 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, recording 10 points (3-7–10). Haché just re-upped on another one-year deal with the AHL Barracuda.
Nolan Burke (C)— Sarnia Sting (2018-23)
Acquired via trade: August 23, 2024
OHL Career Stats: 177 GP, 90 G, 64 A, 154 PTS., +6
Age: 22
Acquired by San Jose from Nashville in the trade that sent goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to the Sharks, Burke, a former 50-goal scorer in the OHL, put up 31 points (13-18–31) over 55 games with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder in 2024-25.
Ethan Cardwell (C) — Saginaw Spirit (2018-20), Barrie Colts (2020-23)
Selected: 4th Round, 121st Overall (2021)
OHL Career Stats: 189 GP, 94 G, 106 A, 200 PTS., +38
Age: 22
Ever the clutch goal-scorer in the OHL, Cardwell finished his second pro season and it was a successful one as he made his NHL debut on Oct. 29th and scored his first career NHL goal against the Seattle Kraken on Nov. 29th. Cardwell saw six games with the big Sharks, and produced 48 points (11-37–48) over 63 games in the AHL.
Artem Guryev (D) — Peterborough Petes (2019-22), Flint Firebirds (2022-23)
Selected: 5th Round, 135th Overall (2021)
OHL Career Stats: 98 GP, 8 G, 22 A, 30 PTS., -1
Age: 22
Hard-hitting blueliner saw 47 games with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder, producing two goals and three assists in his second pro season.
Joe Carroll (LW) — Soo Greyhounds (2018-21), Peterborough Petes (2021-22)
Acquired (AHL): March 15, 2024
OHL Career Stats: 226 GP, 68 G, 74 A, 142 PTS., -12
Age: 24
Once a member of a Western Conference championship-winning Soo Greyhounds club as a 17-year-old, Joe Carroll twice scored 25 goals in the Ontario Hockey League and showed some scoring punch with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder in 2024-25, recording 20 goals, 17 assists and 37 points in 34 games.
Mitchell Russell (RW) — Owen Sound Attack (2017-18), North Bay Battalion (2018-22)

OHL Career Stats: 239 GP, 78 G, 83 A, 161 PTS., -1
Age: 24
A free agent signing by San Jose at the conclusion of his OHL career before missing nearly all of 2022-23 with an injury, Mitchell Russell spent the majority of his second full pro season with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder, producing 21 points (10-11–21) over 44 games. He saw 10 games of action in the AHL, recording a goal in the process. Russell helped North Bay reach the Eastern Conference Final in 2022, recording 22 points (11-11–22) over 11 playoff contests.
Danil Gushchin (LW) — Niagara IceDogs (2021-22)
Selected: 5th Round, 76th Overall (2020)
OHL Career Stats: 51 GP, 41 G, 30 A, 71 PTS., -13
Age: 23
Gushchin’s OHL showing projected offensive production at the next level and he’s been true to that, recording 51 points (28-23–51) over 56 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. The Sharks got a look at Gushchin as he recorded one assist over 12 games, giving him a total of 18 NHL games played with the big club. Gushchin is a restricted free agent entering the summer.
Jack Thompson (D) — Sudbury Wolves (2018-22), Soo Greyhounds (2022)
Acquired via trade: March 7, 2024
OHL Career Stats: 180 GP, 40 G, 65 A, 105 PTS., +7
Age: 23
Former Canadian World Junior gold medalist Jack Thompson split his first full season in the Sharks organization between the NHL and AHL. The Courtice, Ont. native played in 31 NHL contests, recording 10 points (4-6–10) on a young Sharks team. In 27 games with AHL San Jose, the former third round NHL Draft pick by Tampa Bay produced 14 points (3-11–14) over 27 games. Thompson was acquired by San Jose in a deal that saw Anthony Duclair go to Tampa Bay in March 2024.
Brandon Coe (RW) – North Bay Battalion (2017-22)
Selected: 4th Round, 98th Overall (2020)
OHL Career Stats: 250 GP, 86 G, 67 A, 101 PTS., -19
Age: 23
Brandon Coe saw 30 games in his third full AHL season, recording nine points (3-6–9) for the San Jose Barracuda. The former four-year Battalion veteran from Ajax, Ont. is an RFA entering the summer.
Egor Afanasyev (LW) — Windsor Spitfires (2019-20)
Selected: 2nd Round, 45th Overall (2019)
OHL Career Stats: 62 GP, 31 G, 36 A, 67 PTS., +14
Age: 24
Afanasyev spent 2024-25 at home in Russia, recording 21 points (7-14–21) over 53 games for CSKA Moscow. He’ll make a return to North America for the 2025-26 season. The Sharks acquired Afanasyev’s rights in a June 2024 trade with Nashville in exchange for forward Ozzy Wiesblatt.
