OHL Clubs Select 50 Players in 2025 CHL Import Draft
Toronto, ON – Ontario Hockey League member teams selected a total of 50 players in the 2025 CHL Import Draft on Wednesday, July 2nd. The OHL selections consisted of 30 forwards, 15 defencemen and 5 goaltenders.
The three-round draft took place online with the order of selection rotating through each of the CHL’s three leagues. Having acquired the No.2 pick from the Peterborough Petes, the Brantford Bulldogs selected second overall for the first time in franchise history.
The Bulldogs led off the OHL proceedings with the selection of Minnesota Wild fourth round 2025 NHL Draft pick, Adam Benak, who spent the 2024-25 season with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms. Benak, who hails from Czechia, was named to the USHL’s All-Rookie Team this past season after finishing ninth in league scoring and second in rookie scoring with 59 points (17-42-59) through 56 regular-season games. He tied for second in league assists with 42, pacing league rookies, and registered 26 power play points to lead first-year players.

OHL clubs selected a total of fourteen NHL prospects, 10 of whom heard their names called last week in Los Angeles beginning with Benak in a group that also included forward Matous Kucharcik (14th overall, Owen Sound Attack/Buffalo Sabres), goaltender Yevgeni Prokhorov (23rd overall, defenceman Artyom Gonchar (29th overall, Sudbury Wolves/NY Rangers), forward Michal Svrcek (53rd overall, Windsor Spitfires/Detroit Red Wings), defenceman Linus Funck (58th overall, London Knights/Colorado Avalanche), forward Daniil Prokhorov (69th overall, Sarnia Sting/NY Islanders), defenceman Lasse Boelius (90th overall, Sudbury Wolves/Anaheim Ducks), forward Tinus Luc Koblar (99th overall, Brampton Steelheads/Toronto Maple Leafs) and foward Max Westergard (105th overall, Kingston Frontenacs/Philadelphia Flyers).
Among the 50 players selected, 27 are first-time draft eligible for the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft, while two players (Israilov and Burkhalter), will be eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft.
Each CHL team is now permitted to dress a maximum of three import players who are selected annually through the CHL Import Draft. Under the revised rules, a club with no current import players may select up to three players, a club with one import may select two, while a club with two imports may select one. Clubs with three import players will be ineligible to participate.
