OHL announces broadcast team for 2026 OHL Championship Series presented by Nissan on TSN
TORONTO – The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) today announced the broadcast team for the 2026 OHL Championship Series presented by Nissan.
David Foot will handle play-by-play duties. Foot serves as Manager, Broadcast and Communications with the Belleville Senators and has been a longtime voice in junior and professional hockey. He has called American Hockey League action on the radio while also contributing as a reporter and analyst, bringing a well-rounded on-air presence to the broadcast.
Foot’s recent national work includes calling the 2025 WHL Championship Series between the Medicine Hat Tigers and Spokane Chiefs on TSN, along with the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, also on TSN. Prior to his current role, Foot spent over a decade as a play-by-play voice across junior hockey, including extensive work in the Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey League. His experience includes calling games for the Wellington Dukes and Peterborough Petes, along with hosting and producing hockey programming and podcasts. His background in news and sports broadcasting across the Quinte region has seen him handle everything from live game coverage to hosting and reporting duties, building a strong connection with hockey audiences in Ontario.
Joining Foot in the booth is analyst Ryan Gardner. Originally selected by the London Knights in the OHL Priority Selection, Gardner spent parts of four seasons in the league with the Knights and North Bay Centennials before beginning a long professional career overseas.
Gardner went on to play 20 seasons in Switzerland’s top league, appearing in more than 1,000 games and recording nearly 800 career points. His career included stops with HC Ambrì-Piotta, HC Lugano, ZSC Lions, and SC Bern, where he captured four Swiss championships and a Champions Hockey League title. He was a key contributor in multiple playoff runs, earning league all-star recognition and finishing among playoff scoring leaders during championship seasons.
On the international stage, Gardner represented Switzerland at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and earned a silver medal at the 2013 IIHF World Championship. He also competed regularly in international tournaments, including the Spengler Cup and other European competitions, throughout his career.
Following his retirement in 2018, Gardner served as Head of Player Safety in Switzerland before moving into broadcasting. He has spent the past two seasons as a Champions Hockey League analyst on TSN. Gardner was inducted into the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, recognizing a career that saw him become one of the most accomplished Canadian-born players in Swiss hockey history
Sophie Bernier will serve as rinkside reporter. Bernier is currently a reporter and host with Rogers TV, covering the London Knights, while also contributing digital content for the club.
