NHL Debut: Danil Gushchin (Apr. 1, 2023)
Former Niagara IceDogs forward Danil Gushchin had an NHL debut to remember on Saturday, scoring his first goal in a 7-2 road win over the Arizona Coyotes. Gushchin saw 16:34 of ice in his debut, blocking three shots while taking four shots on goal.
The 21-year-old led the IceDogs in scoring in 2021-22, scoring 41 goals and adding 30 assists for 71 points in 51 games. Gushchin was among the Eastern Conference’s best forwards on an IceDogs team that finished 20th overall in the OHL standings.
San Jose’s third round (76th overall) pick in 2020, Gushchin has put up 36 points (16-20–36) in 61 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda this season.
