NHL Debut: Calum Ritchie (Oct. 9, 2024)
Oshawa Generals centreman Calum Ritchie was named to the Colorado Avalanche’s opening night roster, making his NHL debut on October 9 in an 8-4 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Ritchie logged just over 16 minutes of ice time and registered one shot on goal.
Ritchie’s NHL debut gives the Generals more than 60 consecutive seasons of producing an NHL talent. The club has featured at least one future NHLer on its roster in every season dating back to 1962.
The 6-foot-2, 189lbs. forward from Oakville, Ont., made his professional debut at 19, following a standout season with the Oshawa Generals, where he recorded 80 points (28-52–80) in 50 games. Ritchie added 30 points (8-22-30) in 21 playoff games, helping the team win the 2024 Eastern Conference championship. Over three seasons with Oshawa, the former second overall pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection tallied 184 points (71-113–184) in 174 regular season games. Ritchie has also found success on the international stage, winning bronze with Canada at the U18 Worlds as well as gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Selected by the Avalanche in the first round (27th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft, Ritchie signed a three-year entry-level contract with the organization on July 8, 2024.
