Music City the scene of 2023 NHL Draft
The event several OHL players and their families have been waiting for is finally here as the 2023 NHL Draft takes place Wednesday June 28th and Thursday June 29th at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, home of the NHL’s Predators.
Nashville last held the NHL Draft in 2003, the year OHL forwards Eric Staal (2nd overall, Carolina) and Nathan Horton (3rd overall, Florida) joined goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury atop the list of eligible prospects.
First round proceedings get underway on Wednesday night at 7:00pm before Rounds 2-7 take place on Thursday beginning at 11:00am. All seven rounds of the Draft will be televised in Canada on Sportsnet. In the United States, Wednesday’s first round will be carried on ESPN before Thursday’s Rounds 2-7 will be aired on NHL Network.
Since 1969, a total of 2,475 OHL players have been selected in the NHL Draft representing approximately 20% of all players chosen by clubs and a figure higher than any other league solidifying the OHL as the number one supplier of NHL talent.
Last year, a total of 35 OHL players were chosen in the NHL Draft including 23 forwards, 11 defencemen and one goaltender.
Best of luck to all players and their families at the 2023 NHL Draft!
