Milestone Moments: Oct. 26/17
Defencemen got in on the action on Thursday night, with three rearguards scoring their first OHL goal. Barrie’s Mathew Hill, North Bay’s Nick King and Saginaw’s Duncan Penman all found the back of the net for the first time.
MATHEW HILL (BARRIE COLTS):
Rookie defenceman Mathew Hill put the Barrie Colts up 6-0 with just five seconds remaining in the third period on Thursday, using a Hamilton defenceman to deflect his first OHL goal past goaltender Kaden Fulcher. Hill’s first goal came in his 12th game as the 16-year-old from Oakville, Ont. has also registered a plus-6 rating. Hill was Barrie’s fourth round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
NICK KING (NORTH BAY BATTALION):
Nick King made a great first impression in his North Bay Battalion debut, recording a goal and an assist to help them defeat the visiting Windsor Spitfires 4-0. King’s stepped into a puck won back to him on an offensive zone faceoff by Kyle Potts, handcuffing Windsor’s Michael DiPietro 13:58 into the second period. A 17-year-old from Waterloo, Ont., King was acquired by the Battalion from the Owen Sound Attack this past week.
DUNCAN PENMAN (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Duncan Penman joined the rush and was rewarded, snapping his first OHL goal past Peterborough’s Dylan Wells off a centering feed from Max Grondin. The 16-year-old Penman scored his first goal in his ninth game after being Saginaw’s second round (25th overall) pick this past April. The Oakville, Ont. native is a graduate of the Mississauga Rebels Minor Midgets.
