Milestone Moments: Nov. 1/17

 

Three players scored their first career OHL goals on Wednesday including Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds teammates Cole MacKay and Rasmus Sandin as well as Sudbury Wolves forward Noah Serre. Here’s a closer look at those goals.

 

COLE MacKAY (SAULT STE. MARIE GREYHOUNDS):
Cole MacKay opened the scoring 6:07 into the first period on Wednesday, taking advantage of a Sudbury Wolves turnover claimed by linemate Boris Katchouk. MacKay finished from close quarters, putting a puck underneath Sudbury goaltender Jake McGrath. MacKay spent the 2017-18 season with the Kitchener Rangers Minor Midgets before being drafted in the fifth round by the Greyhounds. The 16-year-old has two goals, three assists and five points in as many games this season.

 

RASMUS SANDIN (SAULT STE. MARIE GREYHOUNDS):
Swedish blueliner Rasmus Sandin scored his first career OHL goal in his third game of the season, finishing off a pretty passing play with Morgan Frost and Boris Katchouk. Sandin scored 12:02 into the second period in what was an eventual 5-4 Greyhounds overtime win on home ice over the Sudbury Wolves. Sandin was Sault Ste. Marie’s first round pick in the 2017 CHL Import Draft and is considered a coveted prospect for the 2018 NHL Draft.

 

NOAH SERRE (SUDBURY WOLVES):
Noah Serre scored his first career OHL goal in his first game on Wednesday, getting some help from 16-year-old linemate Anthony Tabak before beating Sault Ste. Marie’s Tyler Johnson through the five-hole. A 19-year-old Sudbury native, Serre has spent this season with the NOJHL’s Rayside-Balfour Canadians, recording eight points (3-5–8) over 17 contests. He is a former Great North Midget League champion with the Soo Thunderbirds in 2015.
