Matthew Mania commits to Wolves
(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that 6’1, 190lbs right-shot defenceman, Matthew Mania has committed to the Hockey Club. Mania was selected by the Wolves in the fourth round, 60th overall of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.
“We are thrilled that Matty has decided to come to Sudbury and the OHL,” said Sudbury Wolves Vice President and General Manager, Rob Papineau. “We felt he was one of the best defencemen in the 2021 Priority Selection. He was a huge part of the North Jersey U16 National Championship team this past spring and was also a key piece for Team USA’s U17 gold medal winning team this past August in Switzerland in the Five Nations tournament. He is a strong skater, very smart and has great poise and vision. He is a guy that will be a huge piece for us over the next four seasons,” he added.
“I am very excited to join the OHL and the Sudbury Wolves and to become part of this storied franchise,” said Mania. “I can’t wait to meet all my new teammates and to get started.”
Last season, Mania suited up for Team USA at the U17 Five Nations Tournament where he picked up 1 goal and three assists in 4 games and captured the gold medal. During the 2020-21 season, Mania also played for the North Jersey Avalanche 16U AAA with teammate Quentin Musty. This season, the Olmsted, Ohio native played 4 games for the Fargo Force of the USHL, before deciding to make the switch to OHL hockey and join the Wolves.
The transfer paperwork is currently being reviewed by Hockey Canada and USA Hockey and is expected to be finalized in the coming days before Mania is expected to make his debut.
