Generals hire Derrick Walser as Assistant Coach
Oshawa, ON – The Oshawa Generals have announced the addition of Assistant Coach Derrick Walser.
Walser joins the Gens coaching staff with a winning track record having won the 2023 OHL Championship with the Peterborough Petes before becoming the Head Coach of the Red Deer Rebels for the 2023-24 season.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Oshawa Generals,” said Walser. “It’s a team with a rich history and a strong reputation in the league. I can’t wait to get to work with this staff and help this group grow on and off the ice.”
Walser joins a Generals bench that recently saw two-time Memorial Cup winner Mario Pouliot be named Head Coach and fellow Assistant Coach Mike Farrugia.
Walser enjoyed a successful career on the ice as the CHL Defenceman of the Year with the QMJHL’s Rimouski Oceanic in 1998. He’d go on to play 91 games in the NHL, along with more than 400 in the AHL, winning a Calder Cup with the Saint John Flames in 2001. Walser retired in 2017 before embarking on his coaching career with Peterborough.
