Generals’ Calum Ritchie named to Colorado Avalanche opening night roster
The Colorado Avalanche named their opening night roster on Monday, with Oshawa Generals 19-year-old centreman Calum Ritchie as one of their 23 players.
Ritchie was selected by the Avs 27th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. After missing the start of the 2023-24 season due to injury, he returned to lead the Generals to an Eastern Conference title, producing 80 points (28-52–80) during the regular season followed by 30 (8-22–30) over 21 playoff games.
A former second overall pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Ritchie has enjoyed past success on the international stage, winning bronze with Canada at the U18 Worlds as well as gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Should he return to Oshawa, he’ll garner strong consideration for a spot on Canada’s National Junior Team this December. Ritchie was voted the Eastern Conference’s best playmaker in last year’s OHL Coaches Poll.
The Avalanche open their season on Wednesday night in Vegas.
The more you watch this Calum Ritchie goal, the more you realize how crazy it is. 🤯
