Generals acquire goaltender Matthew Humphries from IceDogs
The Oshawa Generals and Niagara IceDogs have completed a trade which sends 2008-born goaltender, Matthew Humphries to Canada’s Motor City in exchange for draft picks.
Humphries, a 6-foot-2, 196-pound goalie from Newmarket, Ont., was originally selected in the third-round, 44th overall by the IceDogs in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. Put in some tough situations with the IceDogs as a 16-year-old rookie, Humphries got his first taste of the OHL and has combined 14 appearances over two seasons with a mark of 0-11-0-1 with a 5.85 goals-against average and .830 save percentage. Humphries recently received a ‘W’ rating on NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary list for the 2026 NHL Draft, which indicates being a potential sixth or seventh round selection.
In return for Humphries and a 2026 seventh-round pick (originally owned by Owen Sound), Niagara will receive Brantford’s 2026 fourth-round pick, and the Soo’s seventh-round selection in 2028.
In seven games with the OJHL’s Aurora Tigers this season, Humphries is 3-3-1 with a 3.41 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.
