Futures Watch: Oshawa Generals 2026 Draft Class and New Faces
As the 2026-27 OHL season approaches, the Oshawa Generals are preparing to build on last year’s campaign. We spoke with members of the organization about the club’s 2026 draft class and the new faces fans should keep an eye on heading into the upcoming season

Selected: 1st Round, 1st Overall (2026 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 33 GP, 32G, 26A, 58 PTS
Age: 16
Earning the Jack Ferguson Award as the first overall selection in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, Kane Cloutier spent the 2025-26 season with the GTHL’s Vaughan Kings U16 AAA program, producing 58 points (32-26–58) over 33 games. After leading Vaughan to a GTHL championship, Cloutier added 11 points (6-5–11) over four games at the 2026 OHL Cup. The son of former OHL goaltender, Memorial Cup champion and long-time pro Dan Cloutier, Kane Cloutier arrives in Oshawa as one of the most decorated prospects in this year’s class.
“We’re obviously ecstatic to snag the top player on our board. Cloutier is a high-end offensive player and explosive skater who is reliable in all three zones. He should be a future star in our league.”
Selected: 2nd Round, 38th Overall (2026 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 32 GP, 35G, 24A, 59 PTS
Age: 16
The second selection for Oshawa in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, Jakub Kuklinski was taken in the second round (38th overall) from the Mississauga Senators U16 AAA program. The winger from Caledon, ON recorded a GTHL-leading 35 goals in 32 regular-season games.
“We were pleasantly surprised we were able to land Kuklinski in the second round after he led the GTHL in goals in the regular season. He has terrific hands and an explosive shot and is someone who should be a perfect complement to Cloutier eventually.”
Deverin Warner (C)
Selected: 4th Round, 70th Overall (2026 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 32 GP, 35G, 24A, 59 PTS
Age: 16
The third selection for Oshawa in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, Deverin Warner was chosen in the fourth round (70th overall) from the Woodbridge Wolfpack Premier 15’s program. The Roselle Park, N.J. native recorded 10 points (6-4–10) in 15 games before adding three points (2-1–3) at the USA Hockey 15O National Championships. The 5-foot-9 centreman is expected to suit up for the U.S. National Under-17 Team in 2026-27.

Selected: 1st Round, 1st Overall (2026 CHL Import Draft)
2025-26 Stats: 30 GP, 13G, 26A, 39 PTS
Age: 16
Marking the highest CHL Import Draft selection in franchise history, Matyas Michalek was selected first overall after a rule change made 2010-born players eligible to be selected in the first round. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound left-shot defenceman from Prague, Czechia, produced 39 points (13-26–39) in 30 games with Sparta Prague’s U17 team last season before adding eight points (3-5–8) in 12 playoff games to help the club capture the Czech U17 championship. He also appeared in 18 games at the U20 level, recording eight points (1-7–8). Internationally, Michalek represented Czechia at both the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the IIHF U18 World Championship, helping his country earn a bronze medal.
“Easily our top-ranked player for the Import Draft. He has tremendous poise and skating ability and has the NHL tools as a 16-year-old. The sky is the limit for him.”
Ethan Cava (C)
Selected: 1st Round, 1st Overall (2026 U18 Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 42 GP, 14G, 26A, 40 PTS
Age: 17
Taken first overall in the 2026 OHL Under-18 Priority Selection, Ethan Cava was one of just two players selected by Oshawa in the draft. The 6-foot-5 centreman comes from Thunder Bay’s Seventh Fire Secondary School Prep Hockey Program and is the son of former Soo Greyhounds captain and Sarnia Sting forward Peter Cava. The 17-year-old recorded 40 points (14-26–40) in 42 games last season while also appearing in one game with the SIJHL champion Thunder Bay North Stars.

Tyler Hinde (LW)
Selected: 3rd Round, 46th Overall (2025 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 47 GP, 27G, 49A, 76 PTS
Age: 17
Drafted in the third round (46th overall) of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Tyler Hinde spent the 2025-26 season with the Mississauga Chargers, recording 76 points (27-49-76) in 47 games to earn OJHL Rookie of the Year honours. The Vaughan, Ont. native finished among the league’s top 10 scorers while leading all 2009-born players in points, with the next closest player in his age group recording 48. Hinde made his OHL debut in January before scoring his first career goal the following month, appearing in 14 games with the Generals.
“Played in 14 games last year, but won ‘Rookie of the Year’ in the OJHL after registering 27 goals, 49 assists, 76 points and 42 PIMs for the Mississauga Chargers. He has a tantalizing combination of size, speed and skill with a big upside.”
Cole Mazzoni (LW)
Selected: 9th Round, 177th Overall (2025 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 61 GP, 46G, 33A, 79 PTS
Age: 17
Drafted in the ninth round (177th overall) in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Cole Mazzoni spent the majority of the 2025-26 season playing for the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies 16U AAA, where he collected 79 points (46-33–79) in 61 games. The six-foot-two forward from Livonia, Michigan, also spent time with the US National Development team, suiting up three times in the USHL.

Cody Costello (RD)
Selected: 11th Round, 217th Overall (2025 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 75 GP, 14G, 32A, 46 PTS
Age: 17
Drafted in the eleventh round (217th overall) in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Cody Costello spent the 2025-26 season playing for the Woodbridge Wolfpack 16U AAA program. The 6-foot-2 defenceman recorded 46 points (14-32–46) in 75 games and is committed to the University of New Hampshire for the 2028-29 season.

Ryan Hedley (C)
Selected: 8th Round, 147th Overall (2023 OHL Priority Selection)
2025-26 Stats: 52 GP, 15G, 36A, 51 PTS
Age: 18
Drafted in the eighth round (147th overall) in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, Ryan Hedley spent the 2025-26 season playing for the Powell River Kings in the BCHL. The Raleigh, NC native collected 51 points (15-36–51) in 52 regular-season games.

Grant Yingst (RW)

2025-26 Stats: 64 GP, 51G, 63A, 114 PTS
Age: 17
Signed by Oshawa as a free agent in July, Grant Yingst spent the 2025-26 season at Shady Side Academy Prep in the USHS, recording 114 points (51-63-114) in 64 games before adding 16 points (7-9-16) in just five games at the EP Cup Series 18U. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native stands 6-foot-2.

Mark Pape (LW)
Acquired: Jun 10, 2026
2025-26 Stats: 46 GP, 3G, 4A, 7 PTS
Age: 17
Acquired in an early offseason trade that sent veteran Owen Griffin to the Guelph Storm, Mark Pape completed his rookie OHL season after being selected 25th overall in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection. He recorded seven points (3-4-7) in 46 games and was named the recipient of the Ivan Tennant Memorial Award as the OHL’s Top Academic High School Student. Pape finished Grade 10 with a 98.8 percent average, including perfect marks in Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry, U.S. History, Fitness and Sport Management.

Cruz Reznik (G)
Acquired: Jun 10, 2026
2025-26 Stats: 30 GP, 3.44 GAA, .894 SV%, 13-13-0-2-1
Age: 17
Also acquired in the early offseason trade that sent veteran Owen Griffin to the Guelph Storm, Cruz Reznik spent the 2025-26 season with the Ayr Centennials of the GOHL. The 6-foot-3 netminder appeared in 30 games, posting a 3.44 goals-against average, a .894 save percentage and one shutout. He made his OHL debut in December with the Storm and was selected as an alternate for the 2026 GOHL Top Prospects Game at OHL’s Connor McDavid Top Prospects event.
“Big, athletic goaltender with tremendous upside. He gained valuable experience starting in the GOHL last season.”
Headlined by first overall selections Kane Cloutier, Ethan Cava and Matyas Michalek, along with experienced additions Tyler Hinde, Mark Pape and Cruz Reznik, the Generals have strengthened their roster through the draft, free agency and the trade market. As training camp approaches, the organization will get its first look at a group expected to play an important role in Oshawa’s future.
