Frontenacs name Stephen Desrocher captain
KINGSTON, ON – The Kingston Frontenacs announced Thursday that overage defenceman Stephen Desrocher has been named captain for the 2016-17 season.
A sixth round (155th overall) pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, Desrocher is in his fourth OHL season, having been acquired from the Oshawa Generals in November 2015. The former Mastercard Memorial Cup champion has a goal and an assist through his first six games of the season.
A native of Toronto, ON, Desrocher is the 41st captain in the 44-year history of the franchise.
The Frontenacs also announced that overage forward Warren Foegele and 17-year-old defenceman Jacob Paquette will serve as alternate captains.
A third round (67th overall) pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2014, Foegele is in his second season with the Frontenacs after an extended look by the Hurricanes out of training camp. The Markham, ON, native registered 48 points (13-35–48) over 52 games last season. He recorded an assist in his 2016-17 season debut on Friday.
Paquette is eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft and joined the Frontenacs after being a second round (31st overall) pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. The Ottawa, ON, native recorded 13 points (3-10–13) in 56 games as a rookie last season while also competing for Team Canada Red at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Paquette returned to the lineup on Friday after suffering an injury over the offseason.
