Frontenacs add NHL Draft prospect Jakub Chromiak to blueline
The Kingston Frontenacs will have another Chromiak in their lineup, acquiring defenceman Jakub Chromiak from the Sudbury Wolves on Wednesday.
The Fronts brought-in the draft eligible Slovak defender in exchange for Barrie’s fourth-round pick in 2025, a second-round pick in 2027 and a sixth-round pick in 2027.
Chromiak, who turns 18 on Thursday, recorded one assist through seven games with Sudbury this season following a rookie campaign that included four goals, 15 assists and 19 points in 61 contests.
“Jakub is a player we were very high on heading into the 2022 import draft,” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. “Having the opportunity to add him to our lineup now is something we wanted to jump at. He is a right shot, puck moving defenseman that adds impressive depth to our defensive group.”
Chromiak follows in the footsteps of older brother Martin, a Los Angeles Kings prospect who recorded 119 points (55-64–119) over 88 regular season games in Kingston from 2019-22. Jakub Chromiak was Sudbury’s eighth-overall selection in the 2022 CHL Import Draft, but the Wolves had to make a move with the addition of Dalibor Dvorsky to their lineup paired with goaltender Jakub Vondras in the crease.
“We would like to thank Jakub for all his time in Sudbury,” said Wolves VP and General Manager Rob Papineau. “He was definitely not a player we intended to move but the Import rules only allow us to have two Import Players on our roster. We are happy that he will be able to get back to playing and we wish him nothing but success. He is a high-quality person and player. He and his family are very familiar with Kingston from his brother’s time there.”
“Chromiak is a great fit into our timeline,” Frontenacs GM Cooper noted of the move. “He is available to us for multiple seasons and will be an important piece for us moving forward. Knowing the family, and being confident in the character of the player is a bonus for us. Martin was an exceptional player for the Frontenacs, and a great addition to the dressing room and the community. We are confident we will get more of the same from Jakub.”
The Frontenacs are at home to the Barrie Colts on Friday night.
