Frontenacs acquire overage forward Tyler Savard
The Kingston Frontenacs announced the acquisition of overage forward Tyler Savard from the Barrie Colts on Wednesday morning, giving them a third overage player alongside Maddox Callens and Jacob Holmes to start the season.
Savard, 20, comes-off a 47-point season split between Barrie and Sault Ste. Marie in 2022-23. He’s recorded 75 points (26-49–75) across 105 career OHL regular season games and was originally the Greyhounds’ 11th round pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. Savard mainly patrols the left-wing and comes in at 6-foot-2, 200Ibs.
“With the addition of Tyler, we get an experienced OHL performer who adds some physicality with a scoring touch,” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. “He played some of his best hockey in last season’s playoffs with Barrie and adds further depth to our forward group.”
The son of former OHL star and long-time NHL forward Marc Savard, Tyler attended rookie camp with the Ottawa Senators last week.
“Tyler joined us last season and had a strong playoff for us,” said Colts Head Coach & GM Marty Williamson. “With the overage limit, a move was necessary for Tyler to continue his OHL career. We would like to wish Tyler all the best in Kingston.”
The Colts continue to carry five overage players in goaltenders Anson Thornton and Ben West, blueliners Connor Punnett and Josh Kavanagh, along with forward Jacob Frasca.
Savard and the Frontenacs open their season on Thursday night in Peterborough.
