Frontenacs acquire overage centreman Cedrick Guindon
The Kingston Frontenacs are shaping up to be a competitive group in the Eastern Conference in 2024-25, adding a veteran presence down the middle in former Montreal Canadiens draft pick Cedrick Guindon on Tuesday.
Frontenacs GM Kory Cooper completed a trade with the Owen Sound Attack that saw the Frontenacs acquire Guindon and a 10th round pick in 2028 in exchange for five draft picks, most notably a second round pick in 2027 and third round pick in 2026.
Guindon brings three seasons of experience to the Frontenacs, who look to fill a void at centre left by graduating talent in Chicago Blackhawks prospect Paul Ludwinski and overage pivot Jax Dubois.
“As an overage player with more than 200 games in the OHL, Cedrick brings valuable leadership qualities to our team.” said Cooper of the move. “He is gifted offensively, with exceptional goal scoring and playmaking abilities. His high compete level contributed to him being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, and we are happy to add a player with those qualities.”
Guindon, from Rockland, Ont., comes off a 57-point season in Owen Sound. His career totals include 78 goals, 107 assists and 185 points over 204 regular season games. After missing his 16-year-old season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Guindon burst onto the scene in 2021-22, scoring 30 goals.
“Cedrick can also be relied on in the defensive zone, which gives us the ability to use him in a variety of situations,” added Cooper. “Our analytics have him as a high value player that complements our top six forwards extremely well. Cedrick is a great fit for us, and we are excited to have him in Kingston.”
Originally Owen Sound’s first round (10th overall) pick in 2020, Guindon was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft before going unsigned. As Attack GM Dale DeGray told Greg Cowan in the Owen Sound Sun Times, the 5-foot-10, 180Ib. centreman had requested a change of scenery for his overage season, and will move closer to home to spend it in Kingston.
